Concept of Operation
  • During Desert Shield/Desert Storm, the Red Army
    took some liberties with the borders to clean up
    some unfinished business. It was well known that
    any Soviet attack into Europe would be preceded
    by a massive infiltration of saboteurs, most
    coming through the Bohemian Forest. It is
    rumored that the KGB and GRU hid various
    weapons on the German side of the border,
    particularly in the rugged Oberpfalz mountains.
    The KGB and GRU staged several incursions to pick
    up their toys partially because they didnt want
    to have the Germans find them just before handing
    the Soviet Union a huge check, but also because
    they didnt want them to fall into unsavory
    hands.
  • Most of the US Army Europe was in the Middle
    East, except for the underutilized Special
    Forces.
  • The KGB/GRU posed as Red Army, since its a lot
    safer in case they get caught.
  • The Soviets would rather have been caught across
    the border, than have the Germans find what they
    got.
  • Most of the world is distracted by the Gulf. As
    long as the Germans dont find the weapons, any
    border incident would be shrugged off as an
    unfortunate accident.

S2 Briefing (s3 eyes only)
  • The GRU (Spetsnaz) and KGB are crossing the
    border to neutralize or pick up weapons meant for
    saboteurs. The GRU has operational authority,
    but due to the nature of the second objective,
    the KGB is involved. They will both pose as Red
    Army.
  • There are two weapons caches across the border.
    One (ANVIL) is a simple explosives dump and can
    be neutralized with demolition. The other is
    the physics package for a suitcase nuke (HAMMER).
    The latter is a critical objective and the whole
    reason to risk an incident.

Mission 1 - Scratch
  • ETD 0930
  • REDFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Find marked border crossing CAMINO
    (designated blue flag)
  • (2) Rally Point at border crossing (CAMINO).
    Call into command and report crossing.
  • (3) Move to OBJ BRAVO.
  • BLUEFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Initiate NORTH patrol from PD.
  • (2) Cross PL BRAVO. Report to OPCOM
  • (3) Inspect border crossing (OBJ ALPHA, RP
    CAMINO) and report any discoveries.
  • OPCOM
  • The object is to get BLUEFOR on the border after
    REDFOR has passed through. Once REDFOR makes it
    to the general area of OBJ B mission 2 begins.

Mission 2 - Scratch
  • ETD XXXX
  • REDFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Find ANVIL
  • (2) Destroy with demolition.
  • (3) Report to OPCOM
  • (4) ROE you may fire on BLUEFOR before
    demolition. After demo, priority is to move.
  • BLUEFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Rally forces at Border Crossing (CAMINO)
  • (2) Towards the East Patrol Border.
  • (3) Investigate any sightings or contacts.
    Report to OPCOM.
  • (4) Do not cross border more than 200m. Do not
    deviate from border more than 200m.
  • OPCOM
  • REDFOR should be able to clear the objective with
    little difficulty, even if being pressured. If
    they are overrun, they should report to OPCOM.
    Orders will be to move to the South and start
    Mission-3.
  • REDFOR reincarnates to the East, BLUEFOR to the
    West.
  • If BLUEFOR overruns the site, they should hold,
    report, and wait orders. They will be sent on
    Mission 2 after REDFOR gets a head start.

Mission 3 - Scratch
  • ETD XXXX
  • REDFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Depart ANVIL for HAMMER (OBJ C - CANTRAP)
  • (2) Cross PL Charlie and Rally at RP Bravo.
    Report to OPCOM
  • (3) Continue to OBJ C. Maintain control measures.
    No more than 250m off center line of march.
  • (4) Find and secure HAMMER. Defend HAMMER, not
    physical location of OBJ C- CANTRAP.
  • BLUEFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Pursue contacts to the South
  • (2) If contact lost, patrol area NW of OBJ
    CANTRAP.
  • (3) Engage and capture (HAMMER) any enemy forces.
  • OPCOM
  • REDFOR reincarnates to the East, BLUEFOR to the
    West.
  • This will end on of two ways
  • REDFOR secures HAMMER and holds it for 10
    minutes.
  • BLUEFOR overruns REDFOR and gets HAMMER.
  • Either way, REDFOR will be ordered South of the
    road and hold. BLUEFOR will be ordered due West
    of CANTRAP and hold.
  • Lunch in the field. Either side may engage a
    small patrol for raids.

Mission 4 - Scratch
  • ETD XXXX
  • REDFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Fast march north and prepare to cross the
    border (OBJ D, CAMINO)
  • (2) Get eyes on border crossing, set rally point
    (RP HATTRICK), and report to OPCOM
  • (3) Avoid capture of HAMMER or self (if HAMMER
    lost)
  • BLUEFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Pursue REDFOR until further orders.
  • (2) Fix and capture any contacts
  • BLUEFOR is now free to cross border at will
  • OPCOM
  • There are no capture rules. Overrun capture.
  • REDFOR reincarnates to the East, BLUEFOR to the
    West.
  • Once REDFOR completes their rally at RP
    HATTRICK, mission 5 starts.
  • If REDFOR is overrun, order BLUEFOR to disengage
    and begin mission 5.

Mission 5 - Scratch
  • ETD 1600
  • REDFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Complete reorg at RP HATTRICK.
  • (2) Hold position and report to OPCOM.
  • (3) On orders, cross border through CAMINO and
    pickup transport at OBJ D.
  • If HAMMER is present, the priority is to get
    HAMMER to the transport. If HAMMER is lost, the
    priority is to get the TACCOM to the transport.
  • TACCOM and HAMMER (if applicable) must pass
    within 20 meters of the flag marking CAMINO.
  • BLUEFOR ORDERS
  • (1) Set ambush over CAMINO.
  • (2) Kill or capture all enemy and whatever they
    are transporting. Do not let them escape!
  • OPCOM
  • There are no capture rules. Overrun capture.
  • BLUEFOR must set the ambush within clear visual
    range of CAMINO or the ambush wont work.
  • BLUEFOR may use mortars.
  • It should be very difficult for REDFOR to escape.

Victory conditions
  • REDFOR Major Destroy ANVIL, Transport HAMMER
    across border to OBJ-D HATTRICK (without being
    captured ever).
  • REDFOR Minor Destroy ANVIL, get HAMMER to the
    border (may be captured at some point), and get
    TACCOM to OBJ-D HATTRICK.
  • REDFOR Marginal Destroy ANVIL, Find HAMMER
    before BLUEFOR (which shouldnt happen), and get
    TACCOM to OBJ-D HATTRICK.
  • BLUEFOR Major Capture HAMMER and hold to the
    end.
  • BLUEFOR Minor Overrun ANVIL or OBJ-C and Keep
    REDFOR from escaping (TACCOM or HAMMER makes it
    to transport)
  • BLUEFOR Marginal Overrun ANVIL or OBJ-C (HAMMER)
  • It should possible for both sides to achieve a
    Minor Victory with a stalemate at/around CAMINO
    in the final mission (optimal ending).

Scratch OPER Orders
  • BLUEFOR
  • Maintain DEFCON 5. Monitor border. Perform
    weekly patrols.
  • Investigate all border incidents.
  • Evaluate and report any findings
  • Detain (or eliminate) and any illegal entries
    across border.
  • Detain any smugglers and take their goods into
    custody as evidence.
  • REDFOR
  • Cross border in secrecy.
  • Locate Weapons Dump-1. Disable weapons. Secure
    site. (Assume site can be permanently hidden
    with the help of some C4.)
  • Locate Weapons Dump-2. Collect weapon.
  • Transport weapon back across border
  • Absolutely do not compromise the location of the
    weapon dumps.
  • Do not let the weapon (from Dump-2) fall into the
    hands of the Germans
  • Priority 1 Do not let the Germans find the
    weapons dumps.
  • Priority 2 Do not let the Germans get their
    hands on the weapon.
  • Priority 3 Execute mission undetected. (This
    means it is better to fight it out than let the
    Germans get their mitts on the weapon)
