various gods
5Hephaistos' Revenge
For revenge on Hera, the goddess who rejected
him, Hephaistos constructed a magic throne. This
throne was presented to her on Mount Olympus.
When she sat on the throne, it entrapped her,
making her a prisoner. The gods and goddesses
begged Hephaistos to release her but he refused.
Dionysus gave Hephaistos wine and while
Hephaistos was drunk Dionysus brought him to
Mount Olympus slumped over on the back of a mule.
Hephaistos was given the beautiful god Aphrodite
as his wife for releasing Hera. Dionysus was
rewarded by being made one of the Olympian
Pantheon.
