The Maori live in New Zealand
New Zealand is a beautiful country. It is an
island north of Australia. It is very green with
a similar climate to Ireland.

Hunting

• The maori people hunted the emu and the moa for
  meat, bones and feathers.
• The bones were used for making tools.

Gathering

Just like the people of the stone age the Maori
were hunter-gatherers. Women gathered fruits,
berries, leaves and roots to feed their
families. Men hunted wild animals, birds and
fish.

Fighting

• The maoris were a warlike people who fought
  savagely among each other over land and property.
  They also believed they had to take revenge for
  any insults to the tribe. They felt revenge was
  the only way to get back the honour of the tribe.
  Feuding went on between some tribes for
  generations.

War dance

• The maori people perform a war dance before
  battle to frighten their enemies.
• The New Zealand rugby team -the All Blacks still
  do this before matches
