Chinas Importance in the Curriculum
  • Schools learn a lot more about Europe, China
    offers a completely different and separate aspect
    to the world
  • Raising questions and awareness about identity
    through understanding other cultures (Dr Frances
    Weightman)
  • Can use China to teach children how to be a
    global citizen
  • How China affects our own lives pollution,
    energy, sustainability, trade if China keeps on
    building at current rate the worlds resources
    would be used up by 2030 (Professor Yong Zhao)

  • The exhibition has been put together by the
    British Museum and has been specifically designed
    for schools to utilise within teaching China
  • Five themes play and performance technology
    language and writing food and drink and
    festivals and beliefs

  • KS2 VISIT
  • Available to book from 11 May to 17 July 2009
  • Explore the exhibition through looking at life in
    a day of a Chinese child, with focus on the
    themes of the exhibition. Pupils will be
    encouraged to compare with the past and their own
    lives. Listen to a story about Chinese invention
    to extend pupils thinking about China's relevance
    in the world and get the chance to handle some
    relevant objects.
  • Active Learning Session running time
    approximately 1hr

  • KS3 VISIT
  • Available to book from 11 May to 17 July 2009
  • Explore the exhibition through looking at life in
    a day of a Chinese child, with focus on the
    themes of the exhibition. Pupils will be
    encouraged to compare with the past and their own
    lives and extend their thinking through the
    familiarity of these objects today. Listen to a
    story about China's four rivers and engage pupils
    within a discussion about the current issues of
    China's dam. Pupils will extend their visit
    through handling some modern objects from the
    western world made in China to develop
    understanding of China's relevance within the
    aspect of trade and sustainability issues.

  • KS1 INDEPENDENT VISIT
  • Available to book from 11 May to 17 July 2009
  • There is a family friendly extended
    interpretation activity suitable to engage KS1
    pupils with the exhibition. Each child can pick
    up a puppet/kite representing an animal from the
    New Year Story. Pupils will be able to discover
    other animals in the exhibition and interact
    through sounds and actions. Space can be
    provided for teacher's to read the New Year Race
    story within the exhibition on a first come first
    served basis.
  • We strongly recommend a pre visit to assess
    suitability for individual groups.
