History of the River

• The Urubamba River valley was an entrance to the
  jungle for the Inca tribe.
• The valley was home to many tribes like the
  Kanchis and the Cusco.
• In the 15th century the valley was inhabited by
  the Tahuantinsuyo.
• The river has an ancient name, Willka Mayu,
  which means Sun River.
