Description
  • Adult beluga whales are creamy white in color.
    When a beluga whale is born it is dark gray or
    bluish/brown gray in color and slowly changes to
    the creamy white found in adults at about five
    years. Their snout is very short and they do not
    have a dorsal fin. Rather, beluga whales have a
    low dorsal ridge. Beluga whales have a large
    rounded structure on the top of their heads
    (called a melon) that focuses sound waves for
    echolocation and sound production

Habitat
  • Beluga whales habitat is the icy water of the
    sub artic the baring sea of Alaska. They are
    generally found in shallow coastal waters. Also
    they use the greater ocean depths as well as
    rivers.

Feeding
  • They eat octopuses, squid, crabs, snails,
    crustaceans, variety of fish like capelin, cod,
    salmon, and pike.

Special characteristics
  • The beluga whale has cartilage around what would
    be a human wrist. The size of a beluga whale can
    be 18 feet. Also it can weigh up to 1.5 tons.

  • The Beluga Whale is called the white whale. Also
    it has been nicknamed sea canaries for its wide
    range of sounds. The beluga whale is the only
    white whale in the world. The life span of a
    beluga whale is 25 to 30 years.
