2
What Will Be Covered
  • The four sections of setup
  • Preparing to run Microsoft Windows Setup
  • Collecting information about your computer
  • Copying files to your computer
  • Setting up hardware and finalizing system settings

3
What Happens When
  • Setup.exe is started?
  • Setup.exe is a stub executable this could be a
different name for localized versions. This
starts Suhelper.bin which gets the path and real
    name of Setup.exe.

4
Setup Started from Microsoft Windows or MS-DOS
  • When setup is started from Windows
  • W9xsetup.bin is called to extract the the
    Precopy.cab files to Wininst0.400
  • When setup is started from Microsoft MS-DOS
  • Dossetup.bin is called to unpack Mini.cab and
W9xsetup.bin to extract the Precopy.cab files to
    Wininst0.400

5
What Blocks Setup?
  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition will block
setup when it detects incompatible applications
    or drivers, such as
  • Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus version 7.71 or earlier
  • IBMs Mwave Modem driver - version is 2.60.36.0
    or earlier

6
How Do You Get Around the Blocks?
  • When you receive a block during setup, the
    message will offer the resolution
  • You are attempting to run setup with a version
of Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus installed that is
incompatible with this version of Windows. You
will need to upgrade to version 7.71 or later, or
    uninstall this software before continuing.
  • The modem driver isn't compatible with Windows
Me. For information about updating your driver,
see the Update.TXT file in the Drivers\Modem\IBM
folder on the Windows Millennium Edition CD-ROM.
Once you have upgraded your modem, you can
    continue Setup.
