Sudan Household Health Survey
Key Features
  • Represents the first collection of data relating

and sanitation, basic education, food security,
child protection - for the Sudan as a whole since
    the 1980s.
  • One of the first projects jointly implemented by
the GoNU and GoSS following the Comprehensive
    Peace Agreement (CPA).
  • Modeled on the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey
(MICS) developed by UNICEF and the Pan Arab
Project for family Health (PAPFAM) designed by
    the Arab League.

3
Objectives
Sudan Household Health Survey
  • To generate national and state-level data on key
    social development indicators, including key
indicators that will monitor the progress towards
    MDGs.
  • To provide up-to-date information for assessing
the situation of children and women in Sudan.
  • To contribute to the improvement of data and
monitoring systems, and to strengthen technical
expertise in the design, implementation, and
    analysis of such systems
  • To develop national and state-level capacity for
    the organization of large-scale surveys,
    including the upcoming census.

Sampling
Sudan Household Health Survey
  • The design involves a three stage cluster sample
  • 25 states of the country
  • The survey covered 40 segments from the primary
sampling units, the quarters and villages in each
of the 25 states and 25 households per cluster
  • 25,000 households in all of Sudan were targeted
    by the survey.

5
SHHS Coverage
  • 24527 Households (HH) with 98.1 response rate
  • 32599 eligible women with a response rate of
    82.6
  • 22512 eligible children with a response rate of
    88.3
  • Data collection covered all clusters within the
25 states with the exception of two which are
partially covered (80-90) due to security
reasons. Of the total clusters selected, about 15
