Where to find Slovakia?

• Slovakia is a small, but beautiful country
  situated in central Europe.

Bratislava
The capital city of Slovakia is Bratislava. You
can find in the southern part of the country.

• Slovakia is divided into 8 regions called
  kraje.
• Our school- the secondary grammar school of Jan
  Adam Rayman is located in the East of the
  country, in the Presovs region.

Our region

• The Presovs region is centred around the third
  biggest city in Slovakia- Presov.
• You can find both in Presov history and lots
  of amazingly interesting places.

Why to visit us?

• Presov has a beautiful historical city centre,
  where you can see many old, but restored
  Renaissance houses.

The European capital city of culture

• Presov is on nomination for European city of
  culture. Every year people of Presov celebrate
  the days of the Presov the city.

• Neptuns fountain is a beautiful place in the
  central park of Presov.
• It is the oldest fountain in the town built in
  1789. A Jewish merchant let it built to show his
  gratitude to the city council that allowed him to
  stay and carry business in the town.

• Another beautiful building in Presov is the
  church of Saint Nicholas. It was built in the
  13th century and tourist can visit it in the city
  centre in the Hlavna street.

• One of the most beautiful places in the east of
  Slovakia is Presovs Kalvaria. Everybody falls
  in love with this place on the first sight.
• Kalvaria is a baroque complex built in the 18th
  century. It is placed on the edge of the city and
  you can enjoy the most beautiful view here.

• In the other city of Presovs region- Poprad, you
  can enjoy beautiful mountains- Tatras, where you
  can enjoy skiing in the winter and long walks or
  hiking paths in the summer.

• In the Tatras can people find even wonderful
  lakes, tarns and mountain ponds.

• Our school is placed near the Prešovs city
  centre, the building was reneweda a few years
  ago.
• Every year students of our school can enjoy lots
  of fun with our teachers and headmaster at the
  school events.

Traditions

• Prom night- several months before the
  school-leaving examination the students prepare
  the programme for the celebration. They are
  pinned with green ribbons which are symbols of
  hope. It reminds them they are approaching new
  periods in their lives.
• "Immatriculation" is the celebration for the
  students of the first form to be accepted into
  "the students guild". The class is welcomed by
  the students of the fourth form who have prepared
  some original funny tricks for them to become
  "real" students of the school.

• Raymans Week is held annually in April. It is
  organized to honour Jan Adam Rayman who was known
  for his humanity. Our school is decorated with
  seven colours and both students and teachers are
  dressed in one of these colours each day of the
  week.
• Benefit concert takes place in the theatre of
  Jonáš Záborský either before Christmas or in
  February. Students and even teachers appear on
  the stage with their acts, e.g. dancing, singing,
  reciting poetry or playing an instrument.

• School ball is very a popular tradition, that
  started just few years ago. All the students and
  the teachers can buy a ticket and on the Saturday
  night they all come to school, dance, eat and
  have fun.
• Volley tournament- once a year each class sends
  its best players to fight the other classes. The
  winning class goes to semi-final and than to
  final competition. It is pretty thrilling for
  each class.
