Preov

In the late 8th century, the territory of Preov
was settled by a Slavonic population.
The first written mention about Preov is in a
pergamen from the king Béla IV. from 1247.
In the vicinity of Preov, in Solivar, salt
mining started in 1 572.

Nitra

Theatre of Andrej Bagara
Nitra, like Rome, was founded on seven hills. Its
name is connected with the beginnings of the
history of Slovakia, with the names of Pribina,
Svatopluk, Sts. Cyril and Methodius and even with
the mention of the first Christian church on the
territory of Slovakia and with the introduction
of the old Slavonic alphabet.

Zobor (588 m) is 4 km from the town of Nitra.

Banská Bystrica
In 1589 the town was completely surrounded by
stone walls. The remnants of the town fortress
and walls witnessed very hard fightings against
the invading Turks (in 1526). Only remains of the
huge stone walls have been preserved till today.

Banská Bystrica, thanks to its position, rich
history and many medieval remains, became one of
the most important mining towns in Slovakia.

countries of Europe perform their art.

The castle was built for the Hungarian King Louis
I (the Great) from the Anjou family. The castle
was rebuilt many times, but the ground floor has
preserved its original character up to now.

Liptovský Mikulá

Town had been settled during the Bronz Age.
In 1713 Juraj Jánoík, a well-known highwayman,
was put on trial here.
The biggest lake in Slovakia based on the volume
of retained water (360 million cubic metres

Poprad
The city is famous relax and sport center, nice
place for spending holidays and recovering. The
new center offers many possibilities how to spend
free time.
Poprad - a town situated at the foothill of
magnificent mountains is sometimes called the
"Entrance gate" to High Tatras.
The Tatra National Park is the oldest and largest
national park in the Slovakia. The forests are
the kingdom of rarely bears, wolf, lynx, marten,
fox, wild cat, chamois, marmots or eagles.

Kemarok
The city castle of Késmárk was built as a
defensive castle. It is first mentioned in 1463
in connection with the Zápolský family. Its
history is linked with the Tököly family which
had the originally Gothic fort rebuilt as a
luxurious Renaissance residence. The castle burnt
down several times in the 18th century and was
repaired in the 18th and 2Oth century. General
restoration work was carried out between
1962-1985.

Bardejov

exhibition of Bardejov.

In the past
Levice Castle is first mentioned in a document of
1318 and its first known owner was Máté Csák. The
castle ruins are Levices most visible historical
landmarks.

Levoca
The Town Hall
(Locse)
Levoca is situated in Spi and Gemer region.
The Town Hall of Levoca (built in Renaissance
style) dates back to the 15th century. It burnt
down in 1550, and there was another fire in 1599.
It was rebuilt several times. The outside walls
are decorated by paintings showing symbols of
civil virtue such as temperance, precaution,
courage, patience and justice.
Town Theatre offers a wide variety of theatre
performances, and cultural events.

Lucenec

In 1991, for the interest of the people and for
the protection and preservation of the monuments,
the historical part of the town center has been
declared as a Historical Monument Area.
Lucenec Park /the town park/
The herald of Lucenec is a story of a pelican
feeding its three young chicks with its own
blood, this has been told since the 16th century.
