ABET PROCESS
  • Visit by accreditation team in September 2001-
    Chair was David Tyler of Mid-Tech Inc. from
    Belgrade, Montana
  • Team left Program Analysis Forms (PAFs) for each
    program with Dean after exit interview with Dean,
    Provost, and President
  • College had 14 day window to draft a response to
    PAFs

ABET PROCESS
  • Draft report received by College in January, 2002
  • College had 30 days to respond to draft report
  • Full Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET
    will meet in July, 2002 to vote on each program
  • Formal notification of accreditation status will
    be received in August, 2002

GENERAL ABET CONCERNS
  • Lack of probability and statistics in curriculum-
    within 14 day response period a syllabus for a
    new probability and statistics course for
    engineers was developed and added to all
    curricula except ChemE
  • Concern about students experiences on
    multidisciplinary teams

WHERE DO WE STAND?
  • Teams final report to ABET has been submitted
  • Team chair has confided that we should be happy
    with final report if ABET follows teams
    recommendations

RESEARCH FOUNDATION
  • Developed through Office of Vice President for
    Research and Sponsored Programs
  • Most research will flow through Research
    Foundation
  • Foundation will handle budgets for all research
    accounts
  • Foundation will provide funds for development of
    intellectual property

  • Since the foundation is not a state agency, some
    things which were not previously possible and
    inhibited contracts between UA and industry or UA
    and certain government agencies are now possible
