  analysis - usually on same project but could be
  analyzing old data or planning new project

• General solicitation every year

• We have 1 pot of - not firewalled between
  experiments, theory, accelerator or
  non-accelerator
• People vote w/feet
• University groups are crucial and integral part
  of program concepts, design, construction,
  operating analyzing projects
• Project are very long term - faculty have
  responsibility on projects - need stable grants
  as long as they review well

• We fund faculty their groups - partnership
  w/universities
• 2 month summer support assumes that DOE has
  bought their full research time
• People propose for funding to work on the project
  and if it reviews well, they get funding
• Usually on one operating experiment analyzing
  older data and/or construction or planning for
  new projects

  every 3 years
• Program manager reviews monitors grant every
  year
• NOTE There are several specialized programs that
  do have funding firewalled
• Outstanding Junior Investigator

  funds since its the same field
• It is different than how other DOE divisions or
  how astronomy is done
• Average funding per faculty member
• Theory - 100k/yr
• Experiment - 200k/yr
