6To know how to speak a language means to produce
language structures (words, sentences, etc.) in a
communicative manner
BUT NOT ONLY
We can say that a person is bilingual when he/she
can understand and tell a story in two different
languages.
7How much do children learn?
- After two years of foreign language learning each
child told a story of his or her choice from
among those learnt at school. - Narration took place in a quiet classroom in the
presence of the teacher. During narration the
child was wearing the teachers magic shirt and
was following the story on the illustrated book. - Narrations were video-recorded and later
transcribed.

15Concluding
- The Narrative Format is a research-based model
and methodology. This is an important ethical
point we only propose to teachers and children
something reseach has proved to be effective. - The reseach showed that, with this model, even
teachers who have not great language knowledge of
the foreign language can become a good foreign
language teacher. - The research showed which social, relational and
emotional features are needed to learn a new
language effectively and in happiness even at
school. - Teacher training is one of the most effective
dissemination strategies.
