education we need most.

17Most jobs in Virginia are open to people with a
high school diploma, an associates degree, or
other postsecondary training. This is true now
and will continue to be true in the future.
But are these good jobs?
The truth is, some are and some arent.
18Some of these HS/SC jobs pay low wages and have
little chance for advancement.
But others pay well and lead to more
opportunities.

19Whats the difference between the good jobs and
the others?
Specialized training and licensing or
certification.
Anybody with good manners, a strong back, and a
good memory can get a shot at a waitressing job.
BUT
You need qualifications to become an automotive
technician, electrician, LPN, nursing assistant,
or HVAC technician.
20Technical jobs offer good students a chance to
make a good living, without running up a lot of
debt

- As valuable as a bachelors degree is we just
cant afford to keep pouring more money into this
end of the system while allowing technical
education to languish.
