• The changing landforms of the West help create
  climates where many different plants and animals
  live.

Landforms and Climate

• What could have created the great differences in
  land and climate in the West the answer begins
  right under your feet. Though you may not know
  it, the ground you stand on is always moving all
  the time.

How does this happen? Think of the outer layer of
the earth as the shell of a cracked hard boiled
egg. It is broken into pieces called plates. The
plates move slowly and constantly. The cracks in
the earth where plates meet and move are called
Faults. The rugged western land is the result of
these movements
