1) Joshua 7 account of Achan

Joshua 71 But there was sin among the Israelis.
Gods command to destroy everything except that
which was reserved for the Lords treasury was
disobeyed. For Achan took some for himself, and
the Lord was very angry with the entire nation of
Israel because of this.

75 Gods people, the Israelis, went into attack
the small city of Ai. They thought it would be
very easy after their recent victory at Jericho.
But the Israeli army was paralyzed and they were
soundly defeated.

77 Joshua cried out to the Lord asking Him
Why?

710-12 But the Lord said to Joshua. Israel has
sinned and disobeyed my commandment to not take
loot after the battle. They have lied about it
and hidden it among their belongings. Thats why
you were defeated. Rid yourself of this sinor I
will not stay with you any longer.

714 Then God told them, In the morning you
will come by TRIBES then CLANS and then FAMILIES.
Bring each of these groups before Me and I will
reveal who the guilty family is. Then each member
of the guilty family must come one by one.

716-19 So early the next morning, the tribes of
Israel came to stand before the Lord...and Achan
was found to be the guilty one.

720 Achan replies, I have sinned against the
Lord. I saw a beautiful robe and some silver
worth 200 and a bar of gold worth 500. I
wanted them so much that I took them. They are
hidden in the ground beneath my tent, with the
silver buried deeper than the rest.

720-25 So they ran to Achans tent and found
the hidden loot. Then Joshua said to Achan, Why
have you brought this calamity upon all of us?
The Lord will now bring calamity on you and all
of your family.

726 So the men of Israel stoned Achan and his
entire family to death and then burned their
bodies and piled a great heap of stones upon
them. The stones are still there to this day and
the place is called The Valley of Calamity.
And so then the fierce anger of the Lord was
ended.

2) But thats not fair! Why did his WHOLE
FAMILY have to die because of Achans sin?

Because you cant live in Achans tent and
avoid Achans future!

Proverbs 2719 A mirror reflects a mans face,
but what he is really like is shown by the kind
of friends that he chooses.

Proverbs 1320 He that walks with wise men
shall be wise. But a companion of fools will be
destroyed.

3) Who is Achan in your life?

Achan is anyone who feeds, fans or makes me
feel comfortable with my sin.

4. But I really care about Achan I cant just
ditch him

You can not deeply care about anyone who will
laugh with you today, knowing that they will burn
in hell tomorrow.

5. Achan, people you care about will suffer the
consequences for your sin.

6. Friends of Achan, have the guts to draw a
line and get out of his tent!
