Title: Welcome to
1Welcome to
- BIBLE 2202 / 2302
- THE PENTATEUCH
- Lecture Five, Mon., May 21.
- NO PLATE LUNCHES IN CLASS
- DRINK, SMALL TIDBIT o.k.
2Lecture 5 5-21
3At the Close of 6 Days God Rested.
- 1. Creation was perfect. very good.
- 2. Elohim, a the perfect righteous One. had given
life. - 3. He alone has the knowledge of eternal life and
lives by it - 4. This knowledge is that eternal life is the
gift of God through His WORD and is sustained by
obedience to it. - 5. To prevent Mans self destruction (death), He
must impart the knowledge of eternal life to him.
4GOD IS THE WAY OF LIFE, THEREFORE HIS HOLINESS
(IMPECCABLE CHARACTER) IS THE LAW OF LIFE
- GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE BECAUSE HE ABIDES BY THE LAW
OF HIMSELF WHICH MUST NEVER BE BROKEN. - GOD DESIRED MAN TO ENJOY ETERNAL LIFE THEREFORE
BY GRACE HE REVEALS THE RUDIMENTARY LAW OF LIFE
TO THEM TRUST HIS WORD, NEVER DISOBEY IT . - THIS IS NOT FOR HIS DIVINE EGO, IT IS FOR MANS
GOOD LIKE WE DO WITH CHILDREN (Hot Coffee Pot)
5ELOHIM REVEALS THE ELEMENTARY LAW OF LIFE AND
DEATH TO MAN.
RIGHTEOUSNESS
UNRIGHTEOUSNESS
DT. 3019. I call heaven and earth to record
this day against you, that I have set before you
life and death, blessing and cursing therefore
choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live
OBEDIENCE, THE FRUIT OF LIFE
DISOBEDIENCE, THE FRUIT OF DEATH
THIS IS REPRESENTED BY CHOOSING THE FRUIT OF TWO
TREES. THE ONE DESIGNATED AS BEARING THE FRUIT
OF LIFE AND T HE OTHER THE FRUIT OF DEATHWHICH
MEANS ONLY ---LOVE GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS
TO LIVE, ---OR CHOOSE OTHERWISE AND SUFFER AND
DIE. God gave the law of life in extreme
simplicity . Man may not understand, but he can
obey. Same with children and electricity.
6Eating of the Tree of Life is to Partake of Its
Fruit
RIGHTEOUSNESS
UNRIGHTEOUSNESS
19. Now the works of the flesh are manifest,
which are these Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20. Idolatry,
witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath,
strife, seditions, heresies, 21. Envyings,
murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like
of the which I tell you before, as I have also
told you in time past, that they which do such
things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
- Gal. 522. But the fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith, - 23. Meekness, temperance against such there is
no law.
7The Transplanting of the Tree of Life
- 1. And he shewed me a pure river of water of
life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the
throne of God and of the Lamb. - 2. In the midst of the street of it, and on
either side of the river, was there the tree of
life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and
yielded her fruit every month and the leaves of
the tree were for the healing of the nations. - 3. And there shall be no more curse but the
throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it and
his servants shall serve him - 4. And they shall see his face and his name
shall be in their foreheads. - 5. And there shall be no night there and they
need no candle, neither light of the sun for the
Lord God giveth them light and they shall reign
for ever and ever.
8After Death, those who lived by the Word will
re-enter the Sabbath Rest of God.
- 13. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto
me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the
Lord from henceforth Yea, saith the Spirit, that
they may rest from their labours and their works
do follow them.
9JESUS DEMONSTRATED THAT THE WAY OF HOLINESS
LOVE IS THE WAY OF LIFE
- John 11 In the beginning was the Word, and the
word was God. JESUS IS THE WORD OF GOD - John 14. In him (the Word) was life and the
life was the light of men. - 15. If ye love me, keep my commandments.
- ONE IS ONLY FEIGNING LOVE FOR JESUS IF HE
SECRETLY OPPOSES ANY PART OF HIS WORD OF LIFE
10WHY DID MAN MAKE SUCH A FOOLISH DECISION? HE WAS
DECEIVED
- IT NEVER ENTERED MANS HEART TO SIN (DISOBEYMISS
THE MARK) ON HIS OWN. HE HAD DIABOLICAL HELP. - IS THIS WHY MAN RECEIVED GRACE IN HIS FALL, WHILE
THE DEVIL AND HIS ANGELS DID NOT IN THEIR
REBELLION AGAINST DIVINE AUTHORITY?
11Where did Satan come from? Satan means
adversary. Devil means slanderer or accuser
- REV. 127. And there was war in heaven Michael
and his angels fought against the dragon and the
dragon fought and his angels, - 8. And prevailed not neither was their place
found any more in heaven. - 9. And the great dragon was cast out, that old
serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which
deceiveth the whole world he was cast out into
the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
12THE FALL Forearm yourself with this knowledge
- 1. Temptation comes like a serpent in
unsuspected forms - Subtly, stealing slowly and quietly, waiting for
your weakest moment, and then bites with pain
and sorrow. - 2. It launches a bridgehead in your heart by
exciting your curiosity - Curiosity killed the Cat
- Our greatest security against sin lies in our
being shocked by it. (Jer. 615) - 3. Eve was in close proximity to the forbidden.
- She gazed and reflected when she should have fled
13THE FALL Forearm yourself with this knowledge
- 4. There are dangerous cravings in its elements.
- Instinctively draws toward the mysterious. One
veiled figure in an assembly will draw more
attention than the most beautiful present. An
unaccountable appearance in the heavens will draw
more attention than the most beautiful sunset. - 5. Through A craving to be mature, even at the
expense of danger, unbelief disobedience finds
entrance - 6. Experience teaches that one taste of evil
ruined our first parents. One taste alters
attitudes. - Loyalty to to God is loosened, man loses spirit.
14WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PRESENCE OF THE FORBIDDEN.
- 1. AS SHE GAZED AT ITS BEAUTY, , SHE LONGED IN
HER HEART, SHE WAS WEAKENED BY CRAVING - 2, THEN SHE SAW AN INCREDIBLE THING THAT SEEMED
TO MAKE GOD FALSE. A SERPENT DEVOURED THE
FORBIDDEN FRUIT WITHOUT ANY HARM. - 4. SHE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THISHAD GOD BEEN
COMPLETELY TRUE? - 5. THE DEVIL USES THE MOMENT SPEAKS TO HER
HEARTS DESIRE.
15The Serpents Seed is Sown in Eves Heart
- 31. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God
said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the
garden? - Inferred God has not been fair with you
16Eves Reply Seems to Show her Resentment and
VulnerabilityShes a sitting duck for Satan, an
accident waiting to happen.
- Gen. 32. And the woman said unto the serpent,
We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the
garden - 3. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the
midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not
eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
17THE FIRST LIE IN THE WORLD WAS NOT TOLD BY MAN
- 4. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye
shall not surely die - GOD HAD SAID 217. But of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of
it for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou
shalt surely die.
18JESUS REFERS TO THIS IN -- JOHN 844
- 44. Ye are of your father the devil, and the
lusts of your father ye will do. He was a
murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the
truth, because there is no truth in him. When he
speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own for he is
a liar, and the father of it. - 45. And because I tell you the truth, ye
believe me not.
19SATAN STILL PERVERTS WITH THE NOT IN HIS
TALE.
- JESUS MARK 1616
- HE THAT BELIEVETH AND IS BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED.
- SATAN HE THAT BELIEVETH AND IS NOT BAPTIZED
SHALL BE SAVED.
20OBSERVE ANOTHER NOT IN THE DEVILS TALE TODAY
- THE BIBLE SAYS
- I Cor. 1012. Wherefore let him that thinketh he
standeth take heed lest he fall. - SATANS NOT
- YOU CAN NOT SURELY FALL.
21THE SERPENTS APPEAL TO PRIDE
- 5. For God doth know that in the day ye eat
thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye
shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. - EXPERIENCING THE AFTERMATH EFFECT OF EVIL WAS THE
KNOWLEDGE GOD DID NOT WANT THEM TO EVER KNOW. - A common feeling of parents today with their
children.
22Eve is overpowered by craving and succumbs to the
temptation.
- 3 6. And when the woman
- 1) saw that the tree was good for food (she
walked by sight not by faith and became
convinced that God had lied) (2 Cor. 57)
- 2) and that it was pleasant to the eyes,
- 3) and a tree to be desired to make one wise,
- 4) She took of the fruit thereof.
23THE NEW KNOWLEDGE ---WAS by EXPERIENCING THE
EFFECT OF SIN. WHY DIDNT THEY CLAP THEIR HANDS
IN JOY?
- 1. THE NEW KNOWLEDGE WAS NOT WHAT THE COUPLE
EXPECTED - 2. EXPECTED SUFFICIENCY WITHOUT GOD
- 3. EXPECTED THE DISCOVERY OF A MYSTERY
- 4. EXPECTED TO BE EQUAL WITH GOD IN WISDOM
24THE INNOCENT, HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE NEW
EXPERIENCE OF SIN BRINGS
- THE SCARS THAT SIN WOULD BRING TO THEM!
- THEIR INNOCENCE WAS GONE, GONE, GONE
- THAT THEY HAD A CONSCIENCE THAT WOULD DOG THEM IN
THE NIGHT FOR THE REST OF LIFE. - FEELING DEFILED AND UNCLEAN, AFRAID OF THE
PRESENCE OF THE HOLINESS OF GOD. - THINGS WOULD NEVER, NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.
- THAT IN THEIR NEW DEFILEMENT THEY WOULD FORFEIT
THE PRESENCE OF GOD. - THEIR LOSS WAS AWESOME TO BEAR. SEPARATION FROM
THE TREE OF LIFE.
25The knowledge God did not want them (man) to ever
Have.
- PHYSICAL PAIN AND SUFFERING
- A BROKEN FAMILY LIFESEEING THEIR SON MURDER HIS
BROTHER - EMOTIONAL PAIN AND SUFFERING
- THE EFFECTS OF SIN IN AGING THE BODY AND DEATH
ARE ALWAYS A THREAT - THE FEELING OF A GULF AND DISTANCE FROM GOD.
26Consequences of the fall.
- 1. Eyes were opened. ---Gen. 37. And the eyes
of them both were openedthe new knowledge came
and brought - 2. Knowledge of guilt shame. They knew they
were naked (loss of innocence) and they sewed
fig leaves together, and made themselves
aprons---Even still, criminals cover their faces
before the camera - 3. Neither wanted to accept responsibility for
their sin. - MAN CANNOT COVER HIS SIN WITH FLIMSY EXCUSES
BEFORE GOD'S ALL SEEING EYE.
27IN THE WAKE OF SIN. GODS LOVE PROMISES GRACE IN
THE PROTOEVANGELION
- 315. THE OLDEST GOSPEL
- And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her seed it shall
bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. - HERE WE HAVE
- 1. HER SEEDVIRGIN BIRTH
- 2. BRUISE THY HEAD..DEFEAT OF SATAN
- 3. BRUISE HIS HEEL..SUFFERING SAVIOR.
28ADEQUATE COVERING FOR THEIR NEW CONSCIENCE OF
NAKEDNESS WAS THE SHEDDING OF BLOOD OF AN
INNOCENT ANIMALTHEIR FIRST EXPERIENCE OF A DEATH
- 321. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the
Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. - 1. Self covering was inadequate
- 2. Blood was shed and death occurred
- 3. Rom. 323 The wages of sin is death.
- 4. Sin is awesome in its effects on society.
29THE EXCOMMUNICATION FROM EDEN AND THE GULF THAT
SIN CREATES BETWEEN GOD AND MAN
- 322 And now, lest he put forth his hand, and
take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live
for ever 23. Therefore the Lord God sent him
forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground
from whence he was taken. - 324. So he drove out the man and he placed at
the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a
flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the
way of the tree of life.
30How Access Is Regained to the Tree of Life
- Rev. 27. He that hath an ear, let him hear what
the Spirit saith unto the churches To him that
overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of
life, which is in the midst of the paradise of
God. - Rev. 2214. Blessed are they that do his
commandments, that they may have right to the
tree of life, and may enter in through the gates
into the city.
31TO RETURN TO THE TREE OF LIFE ONE MUST BE SLAIN
BY THE SWORD OF GODS WORD.
- GEN. 324 He placed at the east of the garden of
Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned
every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. - 12. For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing
even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner
of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
32WHEN ONE BELIEVES THAT JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD
RAISED FROM THE DEAD IT IS SAID THAT HE IS CUT
TO THE HEART) . i.e. SPIRITUALLY SLAIN (REPENTS
IN SORROW)
- ACTS 237. Now when they heard this, they were
pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and
to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren,
what shall we do? - Matthew 54 Blessed are they that mourn for
they shall be comforted. - Rom. 67. For he that is dead is freed from
sin. - 8. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe
that we shall also live with him
33THE SWORD (GOSPEL) PIERCES THE HEART, SLAYING THE
SINNER, AND THEN HE IS BURIED WITH CHRIST IN
BAPTISM
- 4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism
into death that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life. - 5. For if we have been planted together in the
likeness of his death, we shall be also in the
likeness of his resurrection - 6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified
with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin. - 7. For he that is dead is freed from sin.
34GODS RAINBOW OF GRACE AT THE PORTALS OF
SOCIAL HISTORY
THE PRECIOUS PROMISE
315. and I will put enmity between thee and
the woman, and between thy seed and her seed he
shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his
heel.
35From the Beginning of History
- THE BLESSING AND THE CURSE MOTIF
- CO-EXIST IN TWO SEEDS
36TWO SEEDS SHALL CO-EXIST
THE WOMANS SEED
THE SERPENTS SEED
- THAT WILL BRING THE PROMISED BLESSING OF JESUS
(SALVATION) TO THE EARTH. THIS SEED AHS THE
BLESSING OF DIVINE GRACE WHICH OVER- - COMES DEATH BY RESURRECTING THE BELIEVER FROM
THE DEAD..
- THAT WILL BE DEDICATED TO MOCK GODS PROMISE AND
PREVENT THE DIVINE PROMISE.. THIS SEED HAS THE
POWER OF THE CURSE OF DEATH WHICH WILL BRUISE THE
HEEL OF THE WOMANS SEED
WAR
37THIS IS A WAR BETWEEN
- GOOD AND EVIL
- HONESTY AND DECEIT
- THE SPIRITUAL AND THE MATERIAL
- GOD AND SATAN
- BELIEVER'S IN THE WORD ---SEED OF BLESSING
- BELIEVER'S IN THE LIE -- SEED OF CURSING
38THEY HAVE DIFFERENT GOALS
- The unbelieving seed defines success in terms of
physical possessionsgod of this world. - Luke 1219. And I will say to my soul, Soul,
thou hast much goods laid up for many years take
thine ease, eat, drink, be merry.
- The faith seed defines success in terms of God,
spiritual possessions, eternal life. - Matt. 619-20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures
upon the earth---but lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven,
39JESUS NO ONE CAN BE ON BOTH SIDES
- Matthew 24. No man can serve two masters for
either he will hate the one, and love the other
or else he will hold to one, and despise the
other.
40WHAT IS AT STAKE
- The saving of Man Big Quest. Is God Able to
Fulfill His promised - Can the curse of sin prevent the blessing?
- Can Satan, using his power to deceive man with
his power of sinful lies and murder, mock God? - The Pentateuch (and entire Bible) demonstrates
that flood, famine, earthly governments or
pestilence can prevent Gods from fulfilling His
promise. Obstacles will only becomes the divine
means for protecting the blessing
41SERPENTS SEED WILL BRUISE THE PROMISED SEEDS
HEEL
- 315. And I will put enmity between thee and the
woman, and between thy seed and her seed it
shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his
heel. - THE BLESSING WILL BE WITH THE RIGHTEOUS, BUT AT
THE EXPENSE OF SUFFERING. - Matt. 5 11. Blessed are ye, when men shall
revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all
manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad for great is
your reward in heaven for so persecuted they the
prophets which were before you.
42HISTORY BEGINS TO UNFOLD WITH EXAMPLES OF THE
TWO SEEDS
ALL IN ONE OF TWO SEEDS
FROM CAIN ABEL
TO LAST SOULS
- CAIN (Flesh)
- Gen. 45. But unto Cain and to his offering he
had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his
countenance fell. - I John 312. Not as Cain, who was of that
wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore
slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and
his brother's righteous.
- ABEL (Spirit))
- Heb. 114. By faith Abel offered unto God a
more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he
obtained witness that he was righteous, God
testifying of his gifts
43Cains Sin Includes All Sin
- CAIN VIOLATED TWO BASIC PRINCIPLES OF DIVINITY
AND BROTHERHOOD - Dt. 6 5. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and
with all thy might. - He worshipped as he pleased, and not as it
pleased God. - Lev. 1918 Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself - He killed his brother because his worship was
acceptable and his were not.
44THE ATTITUDE OF CAIN SHOWS THE DARK MENTALITY OF
THE SERPENTS SEED
- 49. And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel
thy brother? And he said, I know not am I my
brother's keeper? - To Adam 39 Where art thou?
- To Cain 49 Where is thy brother?
- I JNO. 2 10. He that loveth his brother abideth
in the light, and there is none occasion of
stumbling in him. 11. But he that hateth his
brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness,
and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that
darkness hath blinded his eyes.
45THE PENTATEUCH ILLUSTRATES THAT THE WAGES OF SIN
IS DEATH
- Gen. 4 16. And Cain went out from the presence
of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the
east of Eden. In 7 generations from Adam are
found living by the law of the jungle. - Adam-Cain-Enoch-Irad-Mehujael-Methusael-Lamech.
- Polygamy begins 423-24 And Lamech took unto him
two wives I have slain a man to my wounding,
and a young man to my hurt. If Cain shall be
avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and
sevenfold. - SEVEN GENERATION ENDS THE TOLDOT OF CAIN
46NOW THE RECORD SHOWS WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FAITH
SEED IN 7 GENERATION IN THE TOLDOT OF ADAM VIA
SETH
- And Adam - Seth- Enos - Cainan Mahalaleel-
Cainan - Jared eight hundred and thirty years,
and begat sons and daughters - Enoch - 1922. And Enoch walked with God and he was
not for God took him. - Heb. 115. By faith Enoch was translated that
he should not see death and was not found,
because God had translated him for before his
translation he had this testimony, that he
pleased God.
47THE EVIDENCE OF HISTORY
- FOR THE SEED THAT CHOOSES TO WALK LIKE CAINS
TOLDOT (AFTER THE FLESH AND NOT AFTER THE
PROMISE) THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH--- Rom 623 - FOR THE SEED THAT CHOOSES TO WALK LIKE SETHS
TOLDOT (TO WALK BY FAITH IN GODS PROMISE) IS TO
OVERCOME BY GRACE THE CURSE OF DEATH
48THUS WE HAVE THE RECORD STATING
- HABAKKUK 24. Behold, his soul which is lifted
up is not upright in him but the just shall live
by his faith. - Eph. 2 8. For by grace are ye saved through
faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift
of God
49A HAZARD ENTERS THE SCENEINTERMARRIAGE
- IT HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED THAT GOD CAN KEEP HIS
PROMISE IF THE BAD SEED MURDERS THE GOOD. NOW
THE QUESTION IS, CAN GOD KEEP HIS PROMISE IF THE
GOOD SEED MIXES WITH THE BAD.
50In three Generations Methuselah, Lamech
NoahUniversal Sin
- The record will now demonstrate that God by His
grace is able to perpetuate the seed of promise
regardless of universal sin that demands
universal destruction. - Problem If the divine curse against sin is
death, how can God save the seed of promise if
there is universal sin? - Solution Grace and faith are superior to sin and
death. Although a small remnant, God is able to
know who they are and save them in a righteous
way. Mt. 713-14
51Faith Seed Is Corrupted by Intermarriage with the
Serpents Seed1 Cor. 1533
- 1. And it came to pass, when men began to
multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters
were born unto them, - 2. That the sons of God saw the daughters of
men that they were fair and they took them wives
of all which they chose. - 3. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not
always strive with man, for that he also is
flesh yet his days shall be an hundred and
twenty years. - 120 yearsGod has patience to extend grace to
sinners for awhile but it is only for a
space.judgment will come. - 21. And I gave her space to repent of her
fornication and she repented not.
52The Result of fleshly Distraction
- 6 4. There were giants in the earth in those
days and also after that, when the sons of God
came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare
children to them, the same became mighty men
which were of old, men of renown. - 5. And God saw that the wickedness of man was
great in the earth, and that every imagination of
the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually.
53Gods Patience Ends in Judgment
- Only 8 righteous faithful souls found on the
earth. - 2 TIM 219 Nevertheless the foundation of God
standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth
them that are his - Satan again loses his bid to destroy the seed of
the woman and prevent the coming of the promised
seedthe Messiah, Jesus Christ
54WHO RECEIVES GRACE FROM GOD?
- NOAH IS AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL
- 67. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom
I have created from the face of the earth both
man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the
fowls of the air for it repenteth me that I have
made them. - 8. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the
Lord. - KEY TO THE GRACE OF GOD. 622. Thus did Noah
according to all that God commanded him, so did
he. - No other boats built by mans design would have
saved anyone
55The Ark is a type of a sinners Salvations
- 20. Which sometime were disobedient, when once
the longsuffering of God waited in the days of
Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few,
that is, eight souls were saved by water. - 21. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth
also now save us (not the putting away of the
filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good
conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of
Jesus Christ
56The Figure of Noahs Salvation and ours
- Had to board the
- ship
- All in ark saved
- All outside perished
- One family of Noahs
- All had to stay on ship
- All must be added to church.. Acts 247
- All in Christ saved
- All outside lost
- One family of Christians
- All must remain faithful
57GEN 11, POST FLOOD WORLD
58THE ORIGIN OF LANGUAGES AND NATIONS
- 4. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city
and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven and
let us make us a name, lest we be scattered
abroad upon the face of the whole earth. - 5. And the Lord came down to see the city and
the tower, which the children of men builded. - 6. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is
one, and they have all one language and this
they begin to do and now nothing will be
restrained from them, which they have imagined to
do. - 7. Go to, let us go down, and there confound
their language, that they may not understand one
another's speech. - 8. So the Lord scattered them abroad from
thence upon the face of all the earth and they
left off to build the city. - 9. Therefore is the name of it called Babel
- EPH 28. For by grace are ye saved through
faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift
of God 9. Not of works, lest any man should
boast.
59THE SEED PROMISE IS NARROWED BY DIVINE
SELECTIVITY- A NATION IS TO BE BORN
- 121. Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee
out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and
from thy father's house, unto a land that I will
shew thee - 2. And I will make of thee a great nation, and
I will bless thee, and make thy name great and
thou shalt be a blessing - ABE IS 75
60WHY ABRAM?
- THE SAME REASON AS WHY NOAH
- 2218. And in thy seed shall all the nations of
the earth be blessed because thou hast obeyed my
voice. - Heb. 11 8. By faith Abraham, when he was called
to go out into a place which he should after
receive for an inheritance, obeyed and he went
out, not knowing whither he went. - . 622. Thus did Noah according to all that God
commanded him, so did he.
61The Principle of Grace and Faith
- Noah obtained grace through his faith
- Abraham obtained grace through his faith
- Paul says Eph, 28. For by grace are ye saved
through faith and that not of yourselves it is
the gift of God - 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- No faith, good works are useless.
62To Perfect His Faith, Abram is Subjected To
Several Tests in Life
- ALTHOUGH HE FAILS ONCE, IN ALL OTHERS HE PASSES.
- EACH TIME HE PROVES FAITHFUL IN THE TEST, GOD
GIVES HIM ADDITIONAL REVELATION - WE WILL NOW STUDY THE DEVELOPMENT OF ABRAMS
CHARACTER
63ABE PASSES THE INITIAL CALL TEST
- TEST 1. THE LOVE OF GOD
- 121 Get thee out of thy country, and from thy
kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land
that I will shew thee - 124. So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken
unto him and Lot went with him and Abram was
seventy and five years old when he departed out
of Haran.
64THE ADDITIONAL REVELATION AFTER PASSING TEST 1
- 6. And Abram passed through the land unto the
place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the
Canaanite was then in the land. - 7. And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said,
Unto thy seed will I give this land and there
builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared
unto him.
65RECEIVING FURTHER REVELATION ABRAM GROWS IN FAITH
- 127 and there builded he an altar unto the Lord,
who appeared unto him. - 8. And he removed from thence unto a mountain
on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent,
having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east
and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and
called upon the name of the Lord. - 9. And Abram journeyed, going on still toward
the south.
66ABRAM FAILS 2ND TEST 1210-20GOD HAS PROMISED,
YET HE FEARS FOR HIS LIFE
- Caused by a famine driving him into Egypt.
- Since God had promised..why didnt Abram seek
Gods counsel before going into a foreign
country. - Regardless of Gods promise , Abram fears that he
will be killed by those who desire his wife. - He fails the test and through fear lies and tells
his wife to lie.a half lie
67ABRAM LIES
- 11. And it came to pass, when he was come near
to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his
wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair
woman to look upon - 12. Therefore it shall come to pass, when the
Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say,
This is his wife and they will kill me, but they
will save thee alive. - 13. Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister that
it may be well with me for thy sake and my soul
shall live because of thee.
68Where Is Satan in all this?
- Remember, he wants to prevent the promise to
Abram being fulfilled through Sarai. His worst
fear is Jesus coming into the world. Thorough
2,000 more years he will use many sinful
circumstances to prevent this from happening.
Here he exploits Abrams weakness. But Abe will
learn and grow stronger - If the marriage takes place to Pharaoh the
promise to send a seed via Sarai will be broken.
69GOD PROTECTS HIS PROMISED SEED. HE PREVENTS

86 Abrahams Faith is Proved Genesis 221-19 Hebrews
1117,18
87Learn 1. Faith Proving Hurts
- 1. And it came to pass after these things, that
God did prove Abraham, and said unto him,
Abraham. And he said, Here am I. (Cp. Mary) - 2. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only
son, whom thou lovest, even Isaac, and get thee
into the land of Moriah. And offer him there for
a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which
I will tell thee of. -
88Being Faithful Hurts
- Hurt intensifies when we dont understand!
- The dark and mysterious and we cant see
- WHY!
- Why me? Why now? Why Mt. Moriah?
89The Burden of Hurt Brings Sleepless Nights
- 3. And Abraham rose early in the morning, and
saddled his ass, and took two of his young men
with him, and Isaac his son. And he clave the
wood for the burnt-offering, and rose up, and
went unto the place of which God had told him.
90The Trial of Faith is A Lonely Burden
- and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac
his son. - But He didnt share his problem.
91Hurts Hang On
- 4. On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes,
and saw the place afar off.
92How the Faithful Manage the Pain
- Faith Sees Gods Healing Beyond the Hurt
- 5. And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye
here with the ass, and I and the lad will go
yonder and we will worship, and come again to
you. -
93Faith Sees Profit in the Pain
- 7. It is for chastening that ye endure God
dealeth with you as with sons for what son is
there whom his father chasteneth not? - 8. But if ye are without chastening, whereof
all have been made partakers, then are ye
bastards, and not sons. - 9. Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh
to chasten us, and we gave them reverence shall
we not much rather be in subjection unto the
Father of spirits, and live?
94- 10. For they indeed for a few days chastened us
as seemed good to them but he for our profit,
that we may be partakers of his holiness. - 11. All chastening seemeth for the present to
be not joyous but grievous yet afterward it
yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been
exercised thereby, even the fruit of
righteousness. - 12. Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down,
and the palsied knees
95The Source for Strength for the Strain of Faith
- How Can One handle that?
- When their faith in the after-life is strong
enough to governs the present life faith is the
victory
- Gen. 225 I and the lad will go yonder and we
will worship, and come again to you. - Gen. 227-8 God will provide the sacrifice
96THE DOME OF THE ROCK A MUSLIM MOSQUE STANDS OVER
THE ROCK WHERE ABRAHAM OFFERED ISAAC A SOURCE
OF SHAME HATE
97Mosque of Omar The Mosque of Omar was built in
the late 600s, about 600 years after the Romans
destroyed the temple. Omar was the
caliph-successor of Muhammad who captured
Jerusalem from the Eastern Roman Empire. (the
last emperor of the western part of the Roman
Empire was deposed in 476 AD. The eastern Roman
Empire continued until 1453 - the year Columbus
was born.
98The Mosque of Omar is called the Dome of the
Rock. Its dome stands over the rock where the
sacrificial altar of the temple stood. The rock
contains four deep holes where the blood from the
sacrifices once flowed. In Muslim legends these
are the hoof prints of Al Boraq (meaning "the
lightning") the horse that carries Muhammad to
heaven in a vision. (In actual life Muhammad
never visited Jerusalem. He was only there in a
vision.)
99By 1453 the eastern Roman Empire had long since
lost most of its territory to the Muslims. In
1453 the Turks captured Constantinople (today
Istanbul, Turkey), the capital city of the
eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire).
100What Is God-Approved Faith?
- 2212 For now I know that thou fearest God
- 1. When we love God more than life
- Eccl. 1213 Jn. 1415 Mt. 2237
- 2. When we believe God will keep His promise
regardless of death. - 2. When we believe God has resurrected His Son
after death.
101The Writer of Hebrews on Abraham
- By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up
Isaac and he that had received the promises
offered up his only begotten son, - 18. Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall
thy seed be called - 19. Accounting that God was able to raise him
up, even from the dead from whence also he
received him in a figure.
102Seeing Beyond Death Anchored Abrahams/Our Soul
- Heb. 619. Which hope we have as an anchor of
the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which
entereth into that within the veil 20. Whither
the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, - Jn. 856. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see
my day and he saw it, and was glad.
103Faith in the after-life Governed Jesus Life in
this Present World
- John 519 The Son can do nothing of himself, but
what he seeth the Father do for what things
soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son
likewise.
104How Pauls Faith Governed His Life
- 20. I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I
live yet not I, but Christ liveth in me and the
life which I now live in the flesh I live by the
faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave
himself for me.
105The Church is the body of Christ and Christians
are the Members
- Faith in the after-death promise of Christ must
be strong enough to govern the Christians
present life - 4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism
into death that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life. - 5. For if we have been planted together in the
likeness of his death, we shall be also in the
likeness of his resurrection -
106- 6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified
with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin. - 7. For he that is dead is freed from sin.
- 8. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe
that we shall also live with him - 9. Knowing that Christ being raised from the
dead dieth no more death hath no more dominion
over him. - 10. For in that he died, he died unto sin once
but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. - 11. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be
dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
107- 12. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal
body, that ye should obey it in the lusts
thereof. - 13. Neither yield ye your members as instruments
of unrighteousness unto sin but yield yourselves
unto God, as those that are alive from the dead,
and your members as instruments of righteousness
unto God. - 14. For sin shall not have dominion over you
for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
108- THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE SAVING FAITH WHERE THERE
IS NO PRACTICE OF THAT FAITH IN THIS LIFE - James 217 Even so faith, if it hath not works,
is dead, being alone. - God knew Abraham feared (respected and honored)
Him when his faith in the after life translated
into obedience in this life. - The same is true for believers in all ages.
- John 1415 If you love me, keep my
commandments
109Abrahams Test of Faith and Ours
- Rm. 121 ---present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your
spiritual service. - 2. And be not fashioned according to this
world but be ye transformed by the renewing of
your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and
acceptable and perfect will of God.
110How Is Our Faith Proved to Be Genuine?
- 23. And he said unto all, If any man would come
after me, let him deny himself, and take up his
cross daily, and follow me. - 24. For whosoever would save his life shall
lose it but whosoever shall lose his life for my
sake, the same shall save it. - 25. For what is a man profited, if he gain the
whole world, and lose or forfeit his own self? - 26. For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of
my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed,
when he cometh in his own glory, and the glory of
the Father, and of the holy angels.
111Our Calling
- I Cor. 617. Wherefore Come ye out from among
them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And
touch no unclean thing And I will receive you, - 18. And will be to you a Father, And ye shall
be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord
Almighty.
112God is Sovereign When Selecting the Channel for
the Promise
- No question that Abraham Understood that the
Calling was in Isaac, not Ishmael, even though
Isaac was the younger Son - 5. And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.
113Sovereignty is shown Also in Selection of Jacob
over Esau
- Gen. 25 21. And Isaac intreated the Lord for
his wife, because she was barren and the Lord
was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife
conceived. - 22. And the children struggled together within
her and she said, If it be so, why am I thus?
And she went to inquire of the Lord. - 23. And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are
in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be
separated from thy bowels and the one people
shall be stronger than the other people and the
elder shall serve the younger.
114Sovereignty Prevails Over Family sins
- 27. And the boys grew and Esau was a cunning
hunter, a man of the field and Jacob was a plain
man, dwelling in tents. - 28. And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of
his venison but Rebekah loved Jacob. -
Problem Parental Favoritism God had revealed
that the elder would serve the younger
115- 29. And Jacob sod pottage and Esau came from
the field, and he was faint - 30. And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray
thee, with that same red pottage for I am faint
therefore was his name called Edom. -
- 31. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy
birthright. -
116- 32. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to
die and what profit shall this birthright do to
me? - 33. And Jacob said, Swear to me this day and
he sware unto him and he sold his birthright
unto Jacob. - 34. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of
lentiles and he did eat and drink, and rose up,
and went his way thus Esau despised his
birthright.
