- Studies in Johns Gospel
- John 1427
3What Peace Did Jesus Leave?
4- esteem them very highly in love because of
their work. Be at peace among yourselves. (1
Thessalonians 513 ESV) - If possible, so far as it depends on you, live
peaceably with all. (Romans 1218 ESV) - So then let us pursue what makes for peace and
for mutual upbuilding. (Romans 1419 ESV) - A gift/promise or instruction to work on?
5- and when they had called in the apostles, they
beat them and charged them not to speak in the
name of Jesus, and let them go. Then they left
the presence of the council, rejoicing that they
were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the
name. And every day, in the temple and from house
to house, they did not cease teaching and
preaching that the Christ is Jesus. - (Acts 540-42 ESV)
- This peace is not always possible
6- And Saul approved of his execution. And there
arose on that day a great persecution against the
church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered
throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria,
except the apostles. - (Acts 81 ESV)
- This peace is not always possible
7- A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word
stirs up anger. (Proverbs 151 ESV) - Know this, my beloved brothers let every person
be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger
(James 119 ESV) - But sometimes this peace IS within our control
8- Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and
beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness,
humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with
one another and, if one has a complaint against
another, forgiving each other as the Lord has
forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
(Colossians 312-13 ESV) - If your brother sins against you, go and tell
him his fault, between you and him alone - (Matthew 1815 ESV)
- But sometimes this peace IS within our control
9What Peace Did Jesus Leave?
- Peace with men?
- Peace with self?
10- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control against such things
there is no law. (Galatians 522-23 ESV) - Like all the Spirits fruit, this one too comes
from the word of the Lord - I have said these things to you, that in me you
may have peace. In the world you will have
tribulation. But take heart I have overcome the
world. (John 1633 ESV)
11- Rejoice in the Lord always again I will say,
rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to
everyone. The Lord is at hand do not be anxious
about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
be made known to God. And the peace of God, which
surpasses all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 44-7 ESV)
12What Peace Did Jesus Leave?
- Peace with men?
- Peace with self?
- Peace with God!
Already you are clean because of the word that I
have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As
the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it
abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you
abide in me. (John 153-4 ESV)
13- Therefore, since we have been justified by
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus Christ. (Romans 51 ESV) - as shoes for your feet, having put on the
readiness given by the gospel of peace.
(Ephesians 615 ESV) - Jesus DID leave them the gospel of peace, for
them and for US!
14What Peace Did Jesus Leave?

Keep your life free from love of money, and be
content with what you have, for he has said, I
will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews
135 ESV)
15What is the end result of the peace that Jesus
gives?
- Sin
- Doubt
- And fear will steal our peace but
- There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts
out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and
whoever fears has not been perfected in love. (1
John 418 ESV)
