2Battle of Trenton and Princeton
3 Battle of Trenton The Battle of Trenton was a
crucial early victory for the American forces in
the American Revolution. On Christmas night 1776,
Gen. George Washington and about 2,500
continental soldiers crossed the ice clogged
Delaware river from Pennsylvania, early the next
morning they surprised Hessian mercenaries in
the British service encamped at Trenton N.J. It
was the last major conflict in the North and the
wars biggest one day battle.

5Battle of Saratoga Historians consider the Battle
of Saratoga to be a major turning point of the
American Revolution. This battle proved to the
world that the fledging American army was an
effective fighting force capable of defeating the
British forces in a major confrontation. As a
result of the battle, the European powers, took
interest in the cause of the Americans and began
to support them.

6Battle of Yorktown The battle of Yorktown began
after the battle of Guilford Court House on March
15, 1781. At that time British General Cornwallis
moved his battered army to the North Carolina
coast, then disobeying orders from General
Clinton to protect the British position in the
Carolinas, he marched north to Virginia and took
command from Loyalist General Benedict Arnold. At
the time Washington was planning to attack New
York, with help from the French. Eventually
Yorktown surrendered. This ended war for American
Independence in the Americas with exceptions of
minor fights in the south.

8 BATTLE OF MONMOUTH The battle of
Monmouth was fought on June 28, 1778 near
Monmouth Courthouse. The American army of about
13,000 men including 2,000 Jersey militia was led
by George Washington, who took a personal hand in
the fighting. The British numbered some 10,000
troops and were commanded by Sir Henry Clinton.
