The Trojan War
  • By Max Handler

Note The representations of soldiers in this
power point are not accurate. There werent Any
Greek or Trojan soldiers on clip art.
2
The Beginning
  • Zeus and Poseidon both wanted to marry Thetis- a
water goddess- but then they learned that if
Thetis had a son, the son would be greater than
his father. So Zeus had Thetis marry Peleus, who
    was a famous Elian hero.

3
The Wedding
  • Everyone was invited to the wedding except Eris.
Irate at the slight, Eris stormed into the
wedding and threw a golden apple- inscribed to
the fairest- into the middle of the wedding.
Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite each wanted it, so
they decided to have a contest to see who got it.

4
The Contest
  • Zeus refused to judge the contest, so he picked
Paris to judge the contest because Paris was
handsome. Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite each tried
to bribe Paris. Hera promised power, Athena
promised wisdom, and Aphrodite promised the most
beautiful woman in the world. Being foolish,
    Paris chose Aphrodite.

The War
  • For ten years the Greeks and the Trojans fought.
Patroclus- a friend of Achilles- was killed by
Hector- the great Trojan hero-, who was
subsequently killed by Achilles as revenge. With
the help of Apollo, Paris slayed Achilles. Paris
was murdered by Philoctetes, who had Hercules
bow and arrows. Odysseus and Ajax both wanted
Achilles armor, and Odysseus got it. Ajax took
out his anger on a flock of sheep. He killed
    himself after regaining his sanity.

The War Begins
  • The most beautiful woman in the world was Helen
of Sparta. She was kidnapped by Paris and brought
to Troy. Angered, Helens wife Menelaüs decided
to attack Troy with the help of Agamemnon,
Achilles, Helens suitors- who had sworn to
protect Helen no matter what- and Odysseus.
Agamemnon became the Commander in Chief of the
Greek army. Achilles was a great fighter.
Odysseus was an extremely wise man. After
Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter to appease
Artemis, the Greeks attacked Mysia, thinking it
was Troy. After suffering many fatalities, the
Greeks returned home and then set off again for
    Troy.

7
The Trojan Horse
  • Odysseus came up with a brilliant plan to end the
war. He had his men build a hollow wooden horse.
He and some of his men went in, and the rest got
on boats and hid nearby. When the Trojans came,
they found Sinon, who had been purposely left
behind. He said that the horse was good. Lacoon
said that the horse wasnt good, but was killed
by two serpents when he finished talking. Taking
it as a good sign, the Trojans brought it into
Troy. At night, the Greeks came out and Troy was
    destroyed. Only two princes-Aeneas and
    Andromache- survived.

A graveyard full of Trojans.
8
As Troy Burned
As Troy burned, many things happened. Cassandra
was pulled from the statue of Athena and killed.
King Priam was killed as he huddled at the altar
of Zeus.
9
The Aftermath
  • After escaping, Aeneas ended up starting the
Roman civilization. Menelaüs decided not to kill
Helen because Helen was too beautiful to be
killed. The Trojan women who survived were
    divided up amongst the Greeks.
