Why it started

• Paris and the Trojans took Helen
• King Agamemnon raised an army and attacked troy

Paris

• Paris was a loser
• A great judge of beauty
• Couldnt fight at all
• A spoiled pretty boy
• Second Prince of Troy

Was to choose between three goddess in beauty
contest

• He chose Aphrodite and Hera got ticked
• Was a Shepherd at the time
• One of the princes of Troy

Start of Trojan war

• This was supposedly the reason that the Trojan
  war was fought
  
• Since he choose Aphrodite she led him to Helen
  the most beautiful women in the world
  
• She was the wife of the Menelaus
• One day when the Menelaus was out he took her away

• When the war started the chieftains called the
  army together
  
• There were two that werent there
• Odysseus and Achilles both who tried to hide from
  the war

Odysseus

• He pretended that he had gone insane
• When the messenger came he was plowing his fields
  and planting salt instead of seeds
  
• The messenger placed the youngest of Odysseus
  children in front of plow
  
• Odysseus went and picked up the kid and so he was
  sane

Achilles

• Was the son of a Nymph
• the mother told him to go to a temple and dress
  as a women so he wouldnt fight
  
• The messenger disguised himself as a trader and
  was selling swords and girly things
  
• While all the women gathered around the trinkets
  Achilles played with the swords

Getting off

• A thousand Greek ships met at a very treacherous
  pass on the water
  
• The leader had to sacrifice his eldest daughter
  in order to leave
  
• He sacrificed his eldest daughter and didnt
  really think about it.
  
• Then they left

At Troy

• The first man to leap to shore was Protesilaus
• An oracle had said that first to get off the boat
  was first to die
  
• The oracle came true and the men paid great
  respect to the man
  
• Hermes raised him again to see his wife he killed
  himself when he was going to leave again

The war

• The two champions on each side both knew that
  they were going to die
  
• It was a stalemate for nine years and at times
  the Greeks gained advantage but could never win
  
• The Trojans gained advantage once when Achilles
  and Agamemnon argued over a women

First Battle with Paris

• The Greeks attacked in a battle without Achilles
• They parted and let the two most concerned fight
• Paris threw his spear at Menelaus and missed
• The Menelaus threw his spear at Paris and missed

The First battle with Paris

• Menelaus took out his sword but dropped it
  because his hand was broken.
  
• He drove at Paris and while attacking Aphrodite
  took him away on a cloud back to troy.
  
• The Trojans hated Paris and were about to settle
  on a truce when Hera made a guy shoot his bow at
  Menelaus and slightly wounded him

• Furiously, Menelaus went around looking for
  Paris
  
• No one helped him cause they hated Paris
• Agamemnon spoke to both armies, declaring
  Menelaus was winner
  
• Greeks wanted Helen back, but Athena interfered
• Wouldnt give her back until Troy was in
  smoldering rubble

• The Greeks were ticked that a Trojan would do
  such a thing
  
• Hera was happy because she wanted troy to be
  burned to the ground
  
• And the battle continued

The Battle Continues

• Diomedes was Greek Champ
• Fought gloriously that day
• Wounded Aphrodite while she carried Aeneas her
  son
  
• Aphrodite ran back to Olympus like a baby
• Apollo protected Aeneas, enveloped him in cloud

The Battle Continues

• Diomedes saw Ares and told Greeks to retreat
• Hera was angry
• Urged horses to Olympus
• Ares complained to Zeus of Athenas violence
• Zeus said Stop being a baby and took him out of
  battle

Trojans Retreated

• With Ares out, Trojans were forced to retreat

The Fall of Troy

• The Greeks moved their ships from first location
• Greeks hid in a wooden horse called Trojan Horse
• Trojans saw it as gift from Gods
• At nightfall Greeks sprang out and opened gates
• Greeks entered and laid waste
• Troy fell and burned
• Some Trojans retreated and escaped
• Achilles got shot in foot and died
