Title: Literary Device: Simile
1Literary Device Simile
- Like a metaphor, a simile is a form of figurative
language that makes a comparison between two
different things. Unlike a metaphor, similes DO
use the connective words like or as to make
this comparison. - Example The sky flowed like a large, blue
blanket spread out over the earth.
2Harlem Langston Hughes
- What happens to a dream deferred?
- Does it dry up
- like a raisin in the sun?
- Or fester like a sore
- And then run?
- Does it stink like rotten meat?
- Or crust and sugar over
- like a syrupy sweet?
- Maybe it just sags
- like a heavy load.
- Or does it explode?
