6Chinese Students in the US
- There are currently over 60,000 Chinese students
studying in the US, the 2nd-highest of any
country after India. - China sends 134,000 students abroad annually,
more than any other nation, and increased by 11
since 2003. - 80 of Chinese students abroad pay they own way,
according to Chinese MOE. - Chinese students have a 50 rate of choosing to
live in their country of study abroad. - The US is currently the Number-1 destination for
Chinese students, but is facing rising
competition from UK, Australia, and Canada. - China has over 20 million students studying in
universities at present with a gross college
enrollment rate of 19 percent. In 2006, a record
high of 9.5 million people have applied for
college in China. - 82 of Chinese students studying in the US are
post-graduate students, while undergraduates
abroad have increased at an annual rate of 40
over the past three years.
