- The stated goal of UI-OnLine is to have at least
10,000 annual enrollments in online ALN courses
during the 2001-02 academic year. - Ten thousand annual course enrollments would
represent a dramatic increase in the number of
students served by the University. - we believe that this goal is indeed
attainable.

- There were gt12,000 online enrollments during the
2001-02 academic year. - The U of I Online catalog now lists 32 different
online certificate and degree programs and 413
different online courses.

- As a result of an enhanced marketing effort, the
monthly traffic visiting the U of I Online
website now averages almost 30,000 visits per
month. - Comparing June 2002 with June 2001, the unique
visitors increased by 196 and the referrals
from search engines (such as Google) increased by
330.

- Forbes.com named the U of I Online website as one
of its choices for Best of the Web in the
Higher Education category in the summer of 2002.

- Diverse online offerings, including 7 masters
degree programs and 9 certificate programs

- The LEEP program (an online masters degree
program in Library and Information Science) was
chosen as the Most Outstanding ALN Program by
the Sloan Consortium in an international
competition in November 2001. - As of August 2002, 236 students will have earned
their masters degrees through the LEEP program.
There will be 213 continuing LEEP students
enrolled in online courses during the Fall 2002
semester.
11LEEP Program
- Students from 41 states and 10 foreign countries
have enrolled in the LEEP program since its
inception in the fall of 1996. Sixty-three
students have been from just 4 states California
(20), Oregon (19), Colorado (13), and Alaska
(11). - The Committee on Extended Education and External
Degrees (CEEED) of the Graduate College just
completed a very favorable 5-year review of the
LEEP program, finding high levels of satisfaction
among faculty, current students, and graduates.
12CTER Program
- The UIUC College of Education offers a Master of
Education degree in Curriculum, Technology, and
Education Reform (CTER). - Target audience is K-12 teachers.
- Three cohorts of students in the CTER program
have now graduated, each having a retention of
100.
13Fire Service Institute
- The Illinois Fire Service Institute offers the
Fire Fighter II certificate online. - This online program, which is unique among all
fire training academies in the country, now
provides access to the critical initial
certification level for hundreds of firefighters
in Illinois who otherwise would not have access
to traditional firefighter academy courses.
14Veterinary Education Online
- Veterinarians now can keep up with fast-changing
advances in animal care through this new online
program. - The program will eventually include courses in
topics such as pain management, dentistry,
ophthalmology, behavior, business, nutrition,
imaging, exotic pets, emerging diseases, and
public health.
15Evaluation ONline (EON)
- A web-based student rating system.
- More flexible than the traditional paper-based
system. - Faculty can log onto the EON system and create
mid-semester and end-of-semester evaluation forms
for their students to complete.

- Faculty have immediate access to their evaluation
results via the web. - Additionally, instructors can further analyze the
overall results to the rated items by demographic
variables (i.e., break down the results according
to class rank, gender, etc.).
17Chicago Campus
- The UIC campus has experienced very high
enrollments in its online programs, with more
than 7,450 enrollments in credit and non-credit
programs during the 2001-02 academic year.
18Dept. of Medical Education
- More than 3,800 residents from various medical
schools and hospitals are enrolled in the online
Graduate Medical Education Core Curriculum. - In addition to residents from UIC who are
enrolled in this online program, 9 local and 9
out-of-state institutions have contracted with
the DME to present the program to their medical
residents.
19Dept. of Medical Education
- The DME is offering an online program of
continuing medical education to 15 physicians in
rural Illinois. - The most recent topics covered in this program,
which is termed Specialty Needs for Practicing
Generalists, were Osteoporosis and Colon Cancer.
20Dept. of Medical Education
- The Department of Medical Education also offers
the Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE)
degree online, which has enrolled students from
Illinois, the U.S.A, and 10 foreign countries.
21Great Cities Institute
- The Great Cities Institute offers an online
certificate in Non-Profit Management (CNM
Online), which is designed for the managers of
non-profit agencies. - Since October 2000, this program has had 425
enrollments in online courses from 155
participants representing 21 states and two
foreign countries (Italy and Venezuela).
22Great Cities Institute
- Ten community leaders from Chicagos North
Lawndale neighborhood completed a special version
of CNM Online last month. - The Lawndale Community Cohort provided non-profit
leaders working in the same community an
opportunity to integrate individual,
organizational and community capacity-building
efforts into a single learning process.
23Public Health
- In response to recent bio-terrorism threats and
the re-emergence of communicable diseases, there
is a growing need for well-trained informatics
professionals who can access, retrieve, generate
and disseminate relevant health information for
rapid decision making.
24Public Health
- The School of Public Health has just begun to
offer an online Master of Public Health degree
program, with an emphasis in Public Health
Informatics. The first cohort of students will
begin this online program in August 2002.
25Engineering
- Richard Hill and Novellus Systems made a major
gift to support efforts to produce and distribute
introductory engineering courses on the Internet
for use by all public high schools in Chicago. - The Internet-Based Learning Modules Initiative
will encourage students to pursue engineering or
the natural sciences as a college major.
26Springfield Campus
- During the 2001-02 academic year, there were
2,411 enrollments in online courses at UIS, an
increase of over 50 from the previous academic
year.

- Enrollments in online classes for the Summer 2002
semester were up 80 from the previous summer
term. - A total of 9,206 credit hours of online courses
were taught at UIS during the 2001-02 academic
year, generating more than 1,000,000 in tuition
and almost 140,000 in technology fees.

- During the Spring 2002 semester, enrollment in
online courses accounted for almost 13 of the
total course enrollments for the campus. - Retention in online courses for the Spring 2002
semester was 96 (equivalent to on-campus
retention).

- The UIS campus now offers 111 different online
courses, two online BA degree completion programs
(Liberal Studies, English), and two online
masters degrees (MIS and Master Teaching and
Leadership). - UIS just received a 500,000 grant from the
Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to develop 6 new
online degree programs during the next 3 years.
31MTL Program
- An online M.A. degree in Master Teaching and
Leadership (MTL). - This degree addresses the needs of in-service
teachers throughout Illinois and beyond who wish
to assume leadership roles within their schools
or districts. - It also serves as a structured aid for preparing
for the Master Teaching National Board
Certification.
32MTL Program
- The MTL program has grown rapidly over the past
two years to enroll more than 150 individuals,
located across the state of Illinois and as far
away as Japan and Holland. - The program has a waiting list of dozens of
qualified students who have applied to enter the
program, but for whom there currently no spaces.
