24Business Continuity Planning
- Doncaster Council has a Duty to promote
Business Continuity to Local Business and
Voluntary Organisations
25Business Continuity Planning
- What is Business Continuity?
- A management process that helps manage the
risks to the smooth running of an organisation or
delivery of a service ensuring that it can
operate to the extent required in the event of a
disruption - Emergency Preparedness - Government Guidance on
Part 1 of CC Act, November 2004
26Business Continuity Planning
- What would this mean for your business if we had
a situation in Doncaster which meant that you
were unable to continue your day to day
operation? - Could you survive?
- What plans have you in place?
27Business Continuity Planning
- In 1996 the Manchester bombing had a devastating
affect on local businesses - Within a 700 metre cordon 600 businesses were
affected. - Within 6 months 250 had gone bust, the majority
being SMEs - Those organisations that survived had Business
Continuity Plans in place and were able to
continue to operate
28Business Continuity Planning
- Organisations that are affected by a disaster and
do not have Business Continuity Plans in place
have only a 50 chance of surviving the next 12
months
29Business Continuity Planning
- If a business fails there could be major impacts
on the Community - Inconvenience and isolation
- Increased levels of tension leading to unrest
and sometimes crime
30Business Continuity Planning
- What should organisations be doing as far as
Business Continuity is concerned? - We need plans not just for acts of terrorism
but events such as Pandemic Flu, Severe Weather
and disruptions to power supplies
31Business Continuity Planning
- If you already have plans are they robust and
resilient? - If you have no plans in place useful information
can be found on the UK Resilience Website
