1Mission Statement To catalyze socio-economic
change in India through education of
underprivileged children
- Started in UC Berkeley in 1991.
- Today Asha has about 66 chapters worldwide and
has supported 385 projects in India till date. - Volunteers in each of these chapters take
personal interest in identifying
education-related projects in India and
supporting them through funds and other means

2ASHA SB
- SB chapter started in 2002 by a group of
enthusiastic people in SB - Asha-SB supports Street-to-School project and
SEED project in India
- Past events at Asha-sb
- Rang Barse The Indian festival of colors on March
12th 2006 held at the Cliff-house in UCSB. - Roshni An evening of South Indian classical music
concert on March 12th 2006. Held in collaboration
with Raagmala. - Santoor North Indian classical music concert on
Oct22nd 2004. - Bharatnatyam Indian classical dance concert and
fundraiser dinner on May22nd, 2004. Proceeds from
this event support SEED project. - Beach cleanup at Goleta Beach on May 24th,2003.
- Brunch fundraiser at the Cliff House on April
12th,2003. This event raised funds of 1000 for
the Street-to-School Project in Calcutta. - Beach Cleanup along DelPlaya drive beach, spring
2002.

5Projects supported by Asha-sb
Street-to-School Project _at_ Kalighat,
Calcutta This project is for the education of
the children of prostitutes with the long term
goal to provide them support, care and formal
schooling, along with vocational training
opportunities.
SEED _at_ Sriperumbudur, Chennai To educate
the children of life prisoners, of patients
suffering from leprosy and cancer, of victims of
murder. Along school curriculum, children are
also given vocational training.

7Our support to Street-to-school
- Tomorrows Foundation has been managing the
childrens education at Dharamdas Trust Model
School through the help of Kolkata Municipal
Corportion. - Now TF needs help in setting up their own Model
School at primary level - Asha-sb is providing 1000 towards help for
this Model School.

Children of life prisoners, of murder victims and
of leprosy patients find shelter, education, and
training for future self-sustenance at SEED.

- Mahatma Gandhi Primary school has about 111
children from 1st to 5th grades. - In addition to academic education children are
given training in Mat weaving, Plastic wire bag
making, Tailoring, Toy making, Flower pot making
etc,.

- Mahatma Gandhi high school has about 56
children from 5th till 10th grades - JC.Kumarappa ITI has about 126 boys in Fitter,
Electrician, Motor Mechanic trades.

14Some picks from the highlights of our prior work
- V.Malathi (both parents are leprosy patients)
successfully completed her Nurse training course
at SRMC and now works as a Nurse-cum-house mother
at Sriperumbudur. - 48 boys who have completed their ITI course have
got placement in Hyundai Motors, Pvt.Ltd,
Chennai. - Two girls who got tailoring training have got a
job in Export Garment factory. Two others have
setup their own tailoring units in their home for
their livelihood.
