Geographical Locations

• Seventeen species of penguins live only south of
  the equator
• Not all species of penguins live in cold areas

Predators, Diet, and Life Span

• When in the water penguins may be eaten by
  seals, sea lions, sharks, or killer whales.
• Penguins eat krill (a shrimp-like crustacean),

  plankton, krill, fish, squid, other seabirds and
  penguins.

Penguin Fun Facts

• Penguins have small wings and use them for
  swimming rather than flying.
• Penguin wings are covered with small feathers,
  almost like fish scales.
• When penguins lose feathers during the molting
  season, most have to stay on land because they
  would be too cold in the water.
• Penguins huddle together to stay warm, and at
  night, they sleep in groups to share their body
  heat.
• Penguins have webbed feet that are used for
  braking and steering as they swim.
• The eggs of the penguin can range from white to
  bluish or greenish.
