  • Pass trucks quickly to resume visibility.

  • Never cut in front of a truck fully loaded
    trucks weigh up to 80,000 pounds and take the
    length of a football field to stop most cars
    weigh only 3,000 pounds.
  • Do not linger alongside a truck! Pass or fall
    back to a safe following distance.

    you can see both of the trucks headlights in
    your rearview mirror.
  • If possible, pass a truck on the left, not the
    right.
  • Try to leave a 10-car length safety cushion in
    front of a truck and stay back behind a truck

  • In 2004, fatalities involving large trucks were
    under 5,000 for the second year in a row. This is
    the lowest number on record.
  • Fatal crashes involving alcohol is 1.1 for truck
    drivers compared to 24 for passenger car
    drivers.
