• There are 4 large blind spots around trucks where
  cars can disappear from the truck drivers view.

• AAA reports that up to 75 of all truck-related
  car fatalities are unintentionally initiated by
  an error on the part of the car driver.
• and
• According to the Federal Motor Carriers safety
  Administration 35 of all truck-related car
  fatalities occur in a trucks blind spots.

• Pass trucks quickly to resume visibility.
• Make sure you can see both of the trucks
  headlights in your rearview mirror before pulling
  back over in front of a truck.

• Avoid passing a truck on the right the right
  blind spot runs the length of the trailer and
  extends out three lanes.

  and the driver cant even see you 30 feet behind
  the truck.

  back 20-25 car lengths and leave 10 car lengths
  in front of a truck for safety cushions

• Allow trucks adequate space to maneuver they
  make wide turns at intersections and require
  additional space.

• Heres a recap of the safety guidelines
• Never cut in front of a truck fully loaded
  trucks weigh up to 80,000 pounds and take the
  length of a football field to stop most cars
  weigh only 3,000 pounds.
• Do not linger alongside a truck! Pass or fall
  back to a safe following distance.

• Try not to change lanes in front of a truck until
  you can see both of the trucks headlights in
  your rearview mirror.
• If possible, pass a truck on the left, not the
  right.
• Try to leave a 10-car length safety cushion in
  front of a truck and stay back behind a truck
  20-25 car lengths.

Truck Safety Facts

• Safety
• Since 1980, large truck-related fatal crashes
  have dropped 50 percent.
• In 2004, fatalities involving large trucks were
  under 5,000 for the second year in a row. This is
  the lowest number on record.
• Fatal crashes involving alcohol is 1.1 for truck
  drivers compared to 24 for passenger car
  drivers.
