Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) is a
research based not-for-profit organisation
operating since 1991. For over two decades, IRTE
has been dedicatedly working in partnership with
Corporates, Government and the regulatory bodies
towards scientifically improving all domains of
traffic management in which safety is an inherent
virtue.
3Road Safety Week Not a Celebration, But a Hard
Reality Check!
So, why do we need a Road Safety Week to
reiterate the importance of road safety? Yes, it
should an intrinsic part of our daily lives, but
we all need a reminder time and again. Therefore,
the Road Safety Week. A national event organised
every year in January by the Ministry of Road
Transport and Highways to create awareness about
traffic rules in a move to reduce road accidents
and make Indian roads safer. Though the
government organises the week, it is also
promoted by many educational and private road
safety institutes as well. They hold many road
safety program to educate the various
stakeholders.
4Highlights of Road Safety Week
- Corporates, government, and private bodies run
many road safety campaigns. - Educate material on road safety such as posters,
banners, leaflets, brochures, etc. are
distributed among road users or displayed in
prominent positions. - Commuters are educated on the importance of being
a responsible road user. Additionally, they are
educated on basic traffic rules and laws. For
example, the importance of wearing a seat belt or
a helmet, driving within speed limits, etc. - Schools organise camps, road safety program, and
other activities (card games, puzzles, safety
films, board games, competitions, quizzes,
debates, etc.) around road safety to engage the
kids in a fun way, while also driving home the
message.
