3Eligibility
- Only students in grades 7-12 may participate in
interscholastic athletic competition (State Board
of Education Regulation). In order to qualify for
public school participation, a student must meet
the following requirements, but is not limited to
the following requirements
47th Grade Eligibility
- A student who is promoted from the sixth grade to
the seventh grade automatically meets the
requirements for the first quarter. - Must have earned a 2.0 GPA from previous quarter
(beginning second quarter) - Must have 85 attendance (beginning second
semester) - Must have passed a minimum load of work during
the previous semester (beginning second semester)
- Must be currently enrolled in at least one-half
of the minimum academic course load - Must be in attendance at school for at least
one-half of the instructional day - May participate at the school where he/she is
enrolled - Shall not participate if he/she becomes 15 years
of age on or before October 16 of said school
year
58th Grade Eligibility
- Must meet local promotion standards
- Must have earned a 2.0 GPA from previous quarter

6Additional Eligibility Information
- Exceptional Children (Grades 7-12) - The 2.0
eligibility rule will be waived if (1) I.E.P.
goals are being met (2) satisfactory progress is
being made in mainstreamed classes, and (3) has
the principals recommendation. - Extended Year (Grades 7-8) - Grades received in
extended year courses (2006) which are repeated
from failed year courses may be substituted for
4th quarter grades when computing the athletic
grade point averages for fall competition. - A minimum load is defined as passing six out of
eight courses in the A/B format of block
scheduling during the traditional school day.

13Athletic Forms Additional Information!
- All forms must be turned into the CHMS Athletic
Department prior to tryouts. - A student may not tryout until all forms are
turned in and filled out properly. - Once all these the forms are turned into the
Athletic Department no other additional paperwork
is need if the student decides to tryout for
other sports the following seasons. - It is strongly suggested that parents keep copies
of all paperwork in case paperwork is lost.
14Student Athlete Expectations
- To show good character at all times. This would
include during school and any another time when
the student-athlete is representing Community
House Middle School. - To bring to practices and games a positive
attitude and the motivation to improve personal
and team skills. - To treat team members, coaches, opponents,
officials and spectator with respect. - To be on time for practices and games.
- To notify coach(es) of any necessary absences.
15Student Athlete Expectations
- To attend 100 of practices and games 75 is
necessary to receive a pin or letter in that
sport. - To come dressed appropriately for practice.
- To be prepared to give 100 effort at every
practice and game. - To respect both the athletic equipment and the
athletic facilities. - To take an active role in helping with equipment
and clean-up after practices and games. - A student-athletes inability to follow these
expectations could result in removal from the
team!
16Parent Expectations
- To show good character while watching practices
and games. - To treat the athletes, coaches, officials and
other spectator with respect. - To stay off of the playing field or court unless
invited on by the coach. - To communicate any concerns or questions to the
coach and/or the athletic director. - To pick their children up on time after practices
and games.
17Parent Expectations
- To notify the coach when their child will be
absent. - To be members of athletic booster club.
- To help volunteer during sporting events and
athletic booster club fundraising activities. - A parents inability to follow these expectations
could result in their childs removal from the
team!
18Tryouts!!!!
- A preseason meeting will be held prior to tryouts
for parents to get information about tryouts, the
season and meet the coach. - Students may only play on one team per season.
(i.e. In the fall, a football player can not play
on the golf team.) - Students may tryout for more than one sport in a
season if the tryouts are held on different days. - Tryouts are typically held in the first 3 to 5
days of that season. - Tryouts must be held for a minimum of 3 days from
400 to 600pm. - All paperwork must be turned and the student must
meet all eligibility requirements before they can
participate in tryouts. - Students must receive a medical examination each
year (365 days) by a duly licensed physician,
nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
Physicals will be offered at the beginning and
end of the school year.
19Tryouts!!!!
- Results of tryouts will be posted no later than
an hour after the final day of tryouts, unless
the Athletic Director gives prior approval to
post the results later than one hour, but no
later than 24 hours after the final day of
tryouts. (Parents and students will be notified
on the first day of tryouts when the final roster
will be posted.) - All coaches will be available 30 minutes after
the final roster is posted to answer any
questions. - No one is guaranteed a spot on a team even if the
student-athlete was on the team the previous
year. - Questions about tryouts should be directed to the
coaching staff first. If a parent feels that
their concerns are not being addressed by the
coaching staff then the athletic director should
be notified.
20Uniforms
- Practice attire is provided by the
student-athlete except for football. Game
uniforms are provided by CHMS except for the
items listed below - Football undershirt/shim (student-athlete
provides) - Softball socks, visor
- Volleyball knee pads (student-athlete provides)
- Golf hat, shirt
- Cheerleading bloomers, undershirt, pom poms
- Baseball socks, hat, undershirt, belts
- Soccer shin guards (student-athlete provides),
socks - All the above items (unless noted) are to be
purchased through the athletic booster club. If
a student-athlete is unable to afford the
additional uniform items the athletic booster
club will provide financial assistance. - If equipment is required to play a sport, (bat,
glove, golf clubs etc) that equipment must be
supplied by the student-athlete.
21Transportation
- All practices and home games (except for golf)
are held at CHMS. Transportation to away games
is provided by the school district (except golf).
The bus will typically leave CHMS around 415
and will return back to school around 700 or
730. - Return times will vary due to length of games
and traffic.
22General CHMS Athletic Department Information
- Once the team is created a parent meeting will be
held the first week of practice to pass out
schedules, gather emergency contact information
and pass out any other information parents and
student-athletes will need for the season. - Uniforms will be issued in the first two weeks of
season. Student-athletes are responsible for
cleaning their own uniforms unless their coach
instructs them differently. - All teams will play 14 games during a season (two
games a week). The exceptions to this are golf,
football and track which only have 7 contests
during their seasons (one contest a week). The
season typically last 9 weeks excluding holidays
(two weeks of practice before games begin).

- The Fall season is from the end of August to the
beginning of November. - The Winter season is from the middle of November
to the beginning of February. - The Spring season is from the middle of February
to the beginning of May. - Softball, volleyball, baseball, and soccer games
are played typically on Mondays and Wednesdays. - Football games and track meets are typically held
on Thursdays. - Basketball games and golf matches will vary week
to week. - There are no playoffs or post-season play.
- Practice is 2 hours before the season begins and
then a 1½ during the season.

- Practices and games will never be held on days
when students are out of school. - Games or practices cancelled due to inclement
weather will be announced by 200pm that day.
The school or the student-athletes will contact
parents at that time! - Every player that is on the team (excluding
managers) will participate in all games. - Uniforms must be turned in at the end of the
season. Failure to turn in a uniform or turning
in a damaged uniform will result in a
student-athletes report card being held until
the uniform is turned in or the amount the
uniform cost is paid in full to CHMS. - A banquet is held at the end of each season to
reward the players and coaches for their
dedication and hard work throughout the season.
