WHAT IS BULLYING?

• A bully is a person who is cruel or overbearing,
  especially to smaller or weaker people.

• Psychological
• Physical
• Verbal

What Do Bullies Do?

• Call names, start rumors, tease, use physical
  violence
• Get into victims minds by ignoring, intimidating,
  and making them feel uncomfortable
• Play with victims emotions through cruel pranks
  and jokes

Why Do Bullies Bully?

• Usually exposed to violence and have problems at
  home
• Because they imitate people they admire
• Think they are in control
• Usually stronger, bigger, more popular than
  people they bully
• 15 of kids are bullies

Victims

• Get bullied because theyre weaker, smaller, not
  as popular
• 15 of kids get bullied
• Most physical bullies are boys
• Most verbal bullies are girls

Bystanders

• Witnesses afraid to stand up to the bully
• Or encourage the bully
• 70 of people in a bullying incident are
  bystanders
• Little kids sometimes look up to bullies

What Can You Do About Bullies?

• Tell a teacher or an adult
• Stand up to the bully
• Start an advisory council
• Start an anti-bullying awareness program
• Walk away from the bully/ ignore them

Statistics

• 80 of adolescents reported being bullied during
  their school years
• 90 of 4th through 8th graders report being
  victims of bullying
• 15 of students bully regularly or are victims of
  bullies
• Up to 7 of 8th graders stay home at least once a
  month because of bullies
