dispatcher, so that the information can be
    forwarded to the emergency personnel.

cover from possible falling glass or debris.

Biological Threat Response
  • In the event of a biological threat, officials
may not immediately be able to provide
information on what you should do. It will take
time to determine what the illness is, how it
should be treated, and who is in danger. If you
    experience symptoms of nausea, difficulty
    breathing, convulsions, disorientation, or
patterns of illness inconsistent with natural
    disease, notify authorities.   Watch television,
listen to radio, or check the Internet for
official news and information including signs and
symptoms of the disease and areas in danger.
  • The first evidence of an attack may be when you
notice symptoms of the disease caused by exposure
to an agent. Be suspicious of any symptoms you
notice, but do not assume that any illness is a
result of an attack. Use common sense and
    practice good hygiene.
  • If you become aware of an unusual and suspicious
    substance nearby
  • Move away quickly
  • Wash hands with soap and water
  • Contact authorities
  • Seek medical attention if you become sick
  • Follow instructions from authorities

    in-house phone.
  • Attempt to gain as much information as possible
    from the individual concerning
  • The location of the bomb.
  • The time of detonation.
  • Document the telephone number the call is coming
    from if possible.
  • Be alert to background noises.

8
Bomb Threat
  • Attempt to write the exact wording of the threat
and ask the caller to repeat if necessary.

    the caller.

    and direction of travel.
  • Do not handle any threat received by paper or

become an emergency within a short time frame,

the hazards of the chemicals in which they work.

    doubt of precautions.

gathering place is in the CRCH front parking lot
off the 3rd floor main entrance. We are to
gather completely in the front lot and not in
front of the building or in the roadway.

communicate to the campus community in a variety
of ways, including e2Campus, email, the JCHS
website, flyers and emergency floor monitors.

e2Campus
  • e2Campus is an emergency message system that
allows the College to send a short mobile text
alert to all students, faculty and staff who have
    subscribed to the service.
  • The text messages will only be sent out in cases
of imminent danger, or when an emergency
situation will impact a significant number of
    people.

advisory committee reporting to the Dean for
    Administrative Services.
  • The Safety Committee includes representation from
    engineering and maintenance, environmental
    services, laboratories, staff, faculty,
    administration, Physical Plant Officer,

Department of Criminal Justice System
  • Violence Against Women Grant

In 2008 the College was awarded a grant from the
Department of Justices Office on Violence
Against Women to expand its programming and
safety features. We are working with the
Carilion Police, City of Roanoke Police, and
other external partners to provide additional
training for police and security officers,
resident assistants, and faculty and
staff. These funds will also be used for
physical improvements, such as additional
cameras, emergency phones and proxy card access
systems and to offer additional safety programs
to the campus community.
