COMMISSION ON NEW STARTS
  • Their mission is to find areas in the diocese
where we are being underserved by our diocese or
reaching out to communities not typically
evangelized by our church, as we carry out our
mission of spreading the Gospel and extending the
    work of the Episcopal Church.
  • The funds for this mission are raised through the
Alleluia Fund for Mission which is an Annual
giving opportunity for every Episcopalian during
the Great Fifty Days of Easter.

STEWARDSHIP COMMISSION
  • The annual campaign for commitments in support of
the operating budget. The results have major
impact on the life of the parish. A consultant
from the Commission on Stewardship, working with
parish leadership throughout the year, can
provide guidance in making the campaign as
    effective as possible.
  • Speakers and consultants are available through
the Commission on Stewardship for special events,
presentations or any special occasions, as well
as to provide ongoing assistance to a parish on
any aspect of its stewardship program.
  • Stewardship workshops held several times per year
in different parts of the diocese is presented to
assist parishes with their annual campaigns.

11
COMMISSION ON STEWARDSHIP
  • A capital campaign is an organized effort to
enlist commitments in support of capital needs,
such as a building or renovation project, a new
organ, etc. Usually it is conducted as a separate
activity from the annual campaign, and it
    requires extensive planning and preparation.
While a professional fundraising consultant is
normally engaged, the Commission on Stewardship
can provide preliminary assistance in the early
stages of planning for the campaign.

12
PLANNED GIVING
  • Bishop C. Judson Child Heritage Circle
  • A Planned Gifts program through our Planned
    Giving Committee providing education and
assistance to parishioners in their planning for
the disposition of their accumulated assets. It
focuses on the importance of various gift
planning vehicles in making ones estate plans,
and encourages charitable giving as an expression
of stewardship of accumulated assets. We
currently have on staff, Charles Gearing who is
available to parishes in establishing and
maintaining a program in the parish, or for
providing assistance for an individual donor
  • For more information contact Dr. Charles Gearing

TRIBAL WISDOM
  • Dakota tribal wisdom says that when you discover
you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is
to dismount. However in business and
congregational redevelopment we often try other
strategies with dead horses, which might include
    the following..

48
TRIBAL WISDOM
  • Buying a stronger whip
  • Changing riders
  • Saying things like This is the way we have
    always ridden this horse.
  • Appointing a committee to study the horse

49
TRIBAL WISDOM
  • Arranging to visit other sites to see how they
    ride dead horses
  • Increasing the standards to ride dead horses.
  • Creating a training session to increase our
    riding ability
  • Declare the horse is better, faster and cheaper
    dead
