  • Are there different Inductions and Certificates?
  • Yes. QUT conducts a number of Health and Safety
    inductions and certificates that may be required
    to be completed by students, depending upon their
    chosen course. These are

  • WHY?
  • We want to keep you safe and happy
  • QUT is required by law
  • YOU are required by law
  • You need to know the safety rules
  • No entry to Labs workshops without it.
  • QUT will keep records of all training.
  • NO CHARGE

General Responsibilities
  • Follow all safety instructions of QUT staff and
    Emergency personnel.
  • Use equipment provided safely.
  • Do not be reckless or wilfully injure yourself
    and others.
  • Report any problems to the tutor, lecturer or
    supervisor.
  • Complete the General safety Induction module
    Blackboard site.

  • Children on campus consult
  • your lecturer before bringing
  • children to a tutorial or lecture.
  • Report complaints about your treatment (unfair
    treatment, inequity, harassment) initially to the
    lecturer, if not then to the Head of School and
    lastly to the Dean.
  • Accidents fill out the form promptly

Laboratory Safety
  • Be sensible.
  • Must wear covered shoes.
  • Must have hair restrained.
  • Use provided Personal Protective Equipment
  • Can not bring food or drink into a laboratory.
  • Wash your hands after handling equipment,
    chemicals or biological material.

FIRE
  • Alert nearby persons and enlist their aid.

  • Fight the fire only if you feel competent.
  • EVACUATION
  • Do not panic

  • Do not re-enter the building without consent of
    security staff.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY
  • Check the situation for danger
  • Keep yourself free from danger
  • Remove the patient from danger
  • Assess the persons condition.
  • Enlist the aid of others

  • Consider the persons wishes if they are coherent
  • Administer first aid up to the level of your
    training.

  • A Risk Management Plan must be completed for all
    projects undertaken in laboratory or field
    locations.
  • Teaching or Research Projects will not be
    permitted to proceed until this is completed and
    fully approved.
