  • Pegasus is Loyola Universitys online catalog and
    contains the records of materials in all Loyola
    Libraries (Health Sciences, Cudahy, Lewis, Law,
    Rome Center).

To Start, go to the Health Science Librarys
homepage at http//library.luhs.org

Basic Search
  • The Basic Search allows you to choose a specific
    type of search. Pegasus scans specific lists when
    you choose to search the title, journal title,
    author, subject heading, or call number.

How to Search
  • Enter your search words or phrases in the text
    box
  • Indicate a type of search or a specific field in
    which to search

Searching Tips
  • Title search enter as much of the title as you
    know, omit initial articles (a, an, the). If you
    dont know the exact title, use the Advanced
    search method.
  • Author enter authors last name followed by
    first name or initial, if known.
  • Truncation in a basic search, the system
    automatically truncates on the right if you
    search Textbook of med, it will retrieve Textbook
    of medicine, Textbook of medical etc.

  • To use Limit, Pull down menu or click on More
    Limits.

  • Item type
  • Language
  • Year
  • Place of Publication
  • Medium
  • Publication Status

Advanced Search
  • The Advanced Search
  • Allows you to combine terms using Boolean Logic.

  • Use to search when exact titles, authors,
    subjects are not known.

  • Enter keywords in boxes.

  • Use the drop-down menu to indicate how you would
    like the system to search for the term(s).

  • Choose which field(s) you wish the system to
    search and click the search button.

Search Results
  • Results are displayed in descending order by date
    but may also be sorted by Author, Title or
    Publication Date.

Displaying a Record
  • Click on the number or title of the item you wish
    to view. The default is the Brief View.
  • The Brief View provides concise bibliographic
    information, location, and circulation status for
    an item.
  • The Full View provides a more expanded, detailed
    description and may include the table of contents
    for the book.

  • Note that each entry has location and call number
    information.
  • You can order items from other Loyola Libraries
    by filling out the interlibrary loan form on our
    website.

Electronic Books
An e-link on a record, indicates electronic
access click on the e-link to access the title.

Printing Results
  • Indicate which records you would like to
    print/save by clicking the corresponding boxes in
    the first column. You may click as many boxes on
    the page as you wish.
  • Go to the Print/Save/E-mail Options table at the
    bottom of the record. Indicate whether you would
    like to print/save all the records on the page or
    just the records you selected.

The results can then be printed or saved.

After checking which titles you want, enter your
email address and click Send Email

  • Click on the New Books tab.

Searching for Journals
  • You can search Pegasus to find out whether a
    Loyola Library owns a particular journal.
  • Pegasus also has holdings information
  • Indicates which Print volumes/years are
    available.
  • If there is an electronic version of a print
    journal, there will be an e-link in the record.
  • NOTE if there is NO print match for the title
    being searched, you must check the e-journal list
    for holdings found on the library homepage or at
    this link http//library.luhs.org/ejnl/alpha/alph
    a.htm

Searching a Journal Titles
  • Enter the journal name in the Basic Search box
    and click on search.

  • Choose the Health Sciences (H.S.)Librarys record
    by clicking on the journal title

  • The Patron Info Records lists
  • The items you have charged out.
  • All overdue items.
  • All requested items.
  • To access this record, click on the Patron Info
    button.

  • Enter the barcode number from your Medical Center
    ID and your last name and click on the login
    button.

  • Print a list of all items you have checked out.
  • Renew items not currently overdue.

Boolean Logic
Pegasus Online Catalog
  • Boolean logic allows you to combine search
    terms.
  • AND narrows the search BOTH Term A and Term
    B are included in the results.
  • OR broadens the search EITHER Term A or Term B
    are included in the results. Useful when
    searching synonyms.
  • Not eliminates a term from the search. Term A
    NOT Term B means Term B will not be found in any
    of the results.
