Entrance Requirements For Honors/Pre-AP/AP
Courses
  • Students must get recommendations from current
    subject teachers
  • Recommendations are based on set criteria
  • See Course Description Handbook
  • Teachers can change their recommendation
  • Waivers are available from your Counselor
  • Please note if you choose to sign a waiver, you
    remain in the requested level for a minimum of 9
    weeks and can only be changed if there is class
    availability.

Recommendations Grade Prerequisites
  • Honors, PreAP and AP classes require a teacher
    recommendation/signature AND certain numerical
    grade. If you do not have both, then a waiver
    will be required.
  • Both the student and parent must sign
  • the commitment statement if you request
  • a honors, PreAP or AP class. Failure to
  • sign will automatically place you in a
  • level class.

DUAL CREDIT COURSES
What is Dual Credit? These are courses that
award both high school and college credit.
Refer to the Course Description Guide for
complete information on dual credit. What
courses are available as dual credit? Sociology,
Psychology, Business Law, Criminal Justice Any
other elective approved by your counselor What
is required to take a dual credit course? Pass
the THEA or its equivalent (ASSET test is the
equivalent test used by Montgomery College)

COSMETOLOGY
  • Applications for Cosmotology are available in the
    Grade Level Office and are required.
  • Bus is provided to Oak Ridge.
  • Class meets 100 p.m. 400 p.m.
  • Earn 1.5 credits per semester
  • Completion of 2 year program and state licensing
    exam will result in a Cosmetology license.
  • Cost is 700 for the 2 year program. If you
    attend a private Cosmetology program such as
    Aveda Institute the cost could be as much as 12
    15,000!

What is the schedule for registration?
  • Meet with students during February.
  • Parent Meeting _at_ 7PM on Feb. 27th.
  • Course Selection Sheet Due by March 9th.
  • Receive Verification Sheet in April.
  • Any changes must be submitted in writing and
    signed by a parent by May 4th.

Fall Semester 2007
  • Schedules will be mailed at the end of July.
  • Be sure you do your required summer reading!
    Dont depend on having English scheduled in the
    Spring.
  • Review carefully call if there is an error
    (NOTE Changing your mind is not considered an
    error. Errors include courses previously passed,
    academic misplacement or courses for which the
    prerequisites have not been met).
  • Books, parking, etc will be picked up prior to
    the first day of school.

    parent signature no later than May 4th .
  • Please do not call in August and ask for a
    change.
  • If you do not choose electives and/or alternative
    courses, dont be surprised when we make the
    choices for you.
