Home-Stays

• Typically with a señora who may have older
  children living with her
• Have your own room
• Your home-stay family hosts students all the
  timeusually in it for the money
• Care about you and how you adjustbest people to
  talk to to practice your Spanish
• Most live about 20-40 minute bus/metro ride from
  school
• Live in a flat/apartmentnot a house
• If there are ANY problems with your home-stay
  talk to Tandem.they will immediately work to fix
  it.

Tandem Escuela Internacional

• Small classesmax 10, usually lesscreates a
  comfortable environment to participate
• Two language classes per dayeach with different
  teacher
• Teachers are amazing!! Listen to what you need
• May be some other international students (mostly
  Germans) in your class
• Language classes are from 9-100 with a break
  from 11-1130
• Two elective classes are two times a week in the
  afternoons

Cultural Programs

• There are at least 3 cultural programs a
  weekusually more.
• Led by a knowledgeable guide (who accompanies you
  on most of the programs so you get to know her)
• Museums, restaurants, theater, exhibits, walking
  tours, flamenco.
• Day excursions (Saturday) two included to
  Segovia Toledo
• Options of weekend trips to Salamanca and Granada
  (must pay for them)

Porto, Portugal for spring break

• Once in Europe it is easy and inexpensive to
  travel throughout Europe.
• Most students went to other cities over spring
  break/weekend trips
• Good websites are easyjet.com, ryanair.com
  hostelworld.com for cheap flights and
  accommodations.

Food

• Always a worrisome thing going to another
  country..in Spain it depends on your tastes, but
  you can always find something
• Ham is their main meat, lunch is their main meal
• Water is safe to drink!
• Grocery stores are throughout the city and
  inexpensive (can buy bread, PB, cheese to make
  own sandwich)
• Restaurants range in price.easy to find a cheap
  one
• American staples McDonalds, KFC, Burger
  King, Starbucks, TGIFridays

• Bring a jacket with front/inside zip pocketsthis
  way you will be extra safe against pick-pockets
• Take advantage of all you can
