Life Cycle

• Mates every spring
• May fight over mate
• Grassy nest in burrow
• Usually four babies
• Eggs are tiny
• Most are born in the spring
• They go out of den at 1 month
• Adult at 2 months
• Live for fifteen years old

• North America
• Mixed woods and open pasture
• Den
• Underground burrows
• Digs tunnel

• Plants
• Greens, fruit, corn, celery, lettuce
• Insects, snails
• Young drinks mothers milk

Adaptations

• Powerful legs, long claws help dig its burrow
• Teeth help it dig burrow
• Break roots with teeth
• Hibernate five months out of the year
• Put on extra fat late in the summer
• Brown, black, and white soft fur
• Body are 2 feet or 5 feet long
• Weighs 11 pounds
