Microsoft Project Now thats Teamwork!

professional project management, but its reach
has typically been restricted to isolated
workstations. The Microsoft Project 2003 family
of products is broadening the scope of
traditional PM activities to true EPM. At this
Webinar, A Microsoft Project Premier Partner will
show you how your organization can leverage the
collaborative capabilities of Project
Professional 2003, Project Server 2003, and
Project Web Access.
Brought to you in partnership with QuantumPM.

6Overview
- The primary, central theme behind an Enterprise
Project Management Solution (EPM) is improved
coordination of people through collaboration. - Communications planning, while well intentioned,
typically does not address the importance of
centralized repositories or the ease of on-going,
real-time information sharing. - Microsoft Enterprise Project Management methods
give your people the tools they need to
successfully manage projects.

utilization across entire organization - Insight into how initiatives and resources align
with business objectives and performance - Control of projects and resources to make smart
decisions as business conditions change

15The Project Web Access (PWA) Environment
- Project Web Access (PWA) for Project Server 2003
is the mechanism whereby obstacles to
enterprise-wide collaboration are removed from
the project management discipline. - We will explore the various aspects of managing
projects, resources, and collaboration in each of
the basic components of PWA. - You will see the benefits of good planning for
your organization.
16Project Web Access
17EPM Project Portfolio Management
- The ability to view detailed project data as well
as rolled up or Portfolio data is one of the
most power aspects of MSPS 2003. - As projects are created in MS Project
Professional, custom outline codes help your
organization define how project data is sorted
and viewed in the Project Center.

- Each Page or Center in PWA offers the user
the ability to Filter, Search, Group, and
Organize the data they see. - We will look at some of this functionality as it
pertains to the Project Center. - Keep in mind that each Page has similar
capabilities.

- Tasks are created in MS Project Professional.

budgets, and resource assignments are correct,
they are published to MS Project Server. - After hitting the database (Project Server), the
tasks are made available to Project Web Access
and resource collaboration.

39EPM Status Reports
- Another main component to good management
practices is collaborating project status. - MSPS 2003 gives users the ability to create,
distribute, and archive status data. - The organization defines the categories for
status reporting and the reporter (resource)
supplies the status of each category.
40PWA Status Reports
41EPM Risk Management
- Risk management is rarely assimilated as a key
component to a projects success. - MSPS 2003 allows the users to identify, quantify,
and qualify risks and risk planning.

46EPM Issues
- An issue, loosely defined, is a risk that has
happened. - Most organizations retain off-line issues logs
and attempt to manage them through a manual
processes of marriage to tasks, resources, and
due dates. - MSPS 2003 allows the users to attach issues to
tasks and assign them to specific resources. - This process of collaboration is the same for
issues and risks.

50EPM Document Control
- Most organizations have some method of document
control in place. - What organizations generally lack is a central
repository that allows direct document
assignments to project plans (schedules) and
tasks. - MSPS 2003 allows users to create a public
repository that may contain corporate standards
and templates for project documents. - The document control component allows for
sign-in/out, version control, editing, and
viewing (based on roles and access rights).

soft skills? - You will need common business processes, will
people know what to do? - Have you developed project and resource
management standards? - Reporting is essential in any EPM solution, so
how will people create reports? - What kind of training will you need?

61How is Project Server Licensed?
- Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 stores
projects so that groups can collaborate on them. - Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003
allows a user to create and edit projects and
post them to a server. Each license includes a
CAL for the same user. - Microsoft Office Project 2003 Client Access
License (CAL) permits one user to access and
administer a project posted to a server - Requires SQL Server Per Processor license or SQL
Server and SQL CALs for each user.
62What if You Are Running Project Standard with SA?
- If your SA was active on or before September 1,
2003, you are eligible to run Project
Professional in place of Project Standard. - When you are ready to renew your SA, you must
decide to renew on Project Standard or Project
Pro.
63Step Up from Standard to Pro
- If you currently have SA on Project Standard and
you are not eligible for the previous promo, you
can still obtain Project Professional when you
purchase an SA Step Up license from Standard to
Professional. - The cost is the difference between LSA for
Project Standard and LSA for Project
Professional.
64You may Already Have Licenses for Project Server
- If you had maintenance on your Project licenses
before July 31, 2002, you received one Project
Server License for each Project license you had
covered. - When you renewed your SA, you had the option to
renew on your choice of Project Standard or
Project Pro. The Project Server SA had to be
renewed separately.
65You may already have the necessary licenses
deploy a Microsoft Enterprise Project Management
solution with a minimal investment. Contact your
dedicated SHI Account Executive to help you
determine your eligibility.
