recognize companies for the volunteer activities
of their employees. - TF Recommendations
- Award to be presented every year at the
geo-congress - Winner will receive a plaque and a feature in an
issue of Geo-Strata - Firms must be a current G-I Organizational Member
in good standing to apply - Firm must meet a minimum amount of award criteria

26The G-IWorking Hard For You
Completed Task Forces
- Organizational Member Task Force
- Charge To enhance organization membership to
encourage increased support of the Geo-Institute - TF Recommendations
- Create a two-tiered membership structure with an
Organizational Member Firm paying 1000/year in
membership dues and a Premier Organizational
Member Firm paying 2000/year in dues. The
increase in dues will help support student
participation in the annual conference. - Create a student social at the annual GeoCongress
geared towards creating an environment of
opportunities for interaction between students,
professors, and OM firms - Create a specific Client Track at the annual
GeoCongress focusing on business and technical
issues

- G-I Staff is recommending to the Board that we
undertake the TFs following recommendations - Train Committee Chairs to be inclusive
- Prepare handouts on committee meetings, times and
location - Have a volunteer ribbon for volunteers to place
on their name badge at conferences - Actively encourage volunteer participation by
reaching out to members in Geo-Strata, on the G-I
homepage and in the eUpdate
29The G-IWorking Hard For You
Presidential Initiatives
- Creation of the Student Presidential Group
- President Jean-Louis Briaud commissioned a group
of 16 students in late 2008 to help better
identify how the Geo-Institute can serve its
student members. - The groups first conference call yielded the
following suggestions - Early exposure to the geotechnical field (in the
undergraduate years) is critical - A conference exclusively for students should be
created - An online research database should be created
- The student geo-competition should be at the
level of the steel bridge competition and the
concrete canoe competition - The group will meet here in Orlando to further
discuss initiatives
30The G-I Working Hard For You
Presidential Initiatives
- Local group visits visits
- President Briaud has begun an initiative to
travel to local sections and branches to foster
local involvement within the G-I
