Title: Road Map of Places in My Life

1
Road Map of Places in My Life
  • I was born in Dallas on June 5, 1983. My older
brother bottom right and I often played with my
uncles at my Grandmothers in Lake Dallas after
my parents divorced. The first 20 years of my
life were spent in the DFW metroplex. We moved
around the suburbs, but the majority of my youth
was spent in Plano, Dallas, and McKinney, Texas.

Texas
  • My mother is originally from Oklahoma. Growing up
with my brother and later, my sister Emma, we
were very poor. My mother often took us on road
trips across Texas to go camping or to visit the
Gulf for vacation. This is a photo that I took
coming across West Texas back to Dallas.

At Home
  • Until my sister was born when I was ten, I spent
most of my childhood finding a home in my family
and my friend, JJ. Even though my parents
divorced early in my life, I spent time visiting
my dad on weekends. My fathers family has lived
in Texas for several generations. I stayed with
my mother in Plano until I turned 17, when I
moved back to downtown Dallas alone.

Looking to Relocate
  • When I was 16, I was lucky enough to take a
roadtrip across the nation to tour California
looking for a college. Even though I never moved
to California, I fell in love with the landscape
and the weather in San Diego and other cities.
Being in California was important in helping me
to respect other cities. As much as Texas is my
home, I hate the weather here and am always
looking to move to a new place.

5
Austin
  • After early high school graduation, I spent a few
months at the University of North Texas. I did
not find the college to be challenging enough, so
I came to visit UT where a close friend was
studying. Being on my own, I made the decision to
come to Austin to continue my studies in English.
I have been here for almost three years now I
love Austin for its people and its culture.

The University of Texas at Austin
  • I transferred into UT as a junior with two and a
half years of work leftover. The university
campus is comprised of mostly similar buildings
of limestone and marble. This campus is extremely
nicer than that of UNT, which has no
    architectural theme whatsoever. Despite loving
the campus, I spend most of my time studying at
home. Geoffrey and I live on South Congress in a
    tiny apartment.

France
  • Somewhere in between 15 and 17, I became obsessed
with France and French Culture. Beamer and I took
a trip to Paris in June 2003. I returned to
France this May to travel through smaller cities
and Spain on my own. Needless to say, France is
where I feel most at home. The old streets of
France are enriched with historic sights and
beautiful parks. Being in France brings a new
sense of excitement and calm to my life.
Unfortunately, I cannot stay there forever
    because of the costs.
