What is a Planet?
  • A planet is a large space body which reflects the
    light of a star around which is revolves.
  • There are nine planets within our solar system.

Mercury
  • Closest to the sun
  • An inferior planet
  • No known natural satellites
  • Takes 88 Earth days to revolve around the sun

Venus
  • Second planet from the sun
  • An inferior planet
  • Third brightest object in our sky
  • Takes 225 Earth days to revolve around the sun
  • It is the hottest planet
  • Its atmosphere is 96 carbon dioxide

Earth
  • Third planet from the sun
  • Water covers 71of the Earths surface
  • Orbited by one large Moon
  • Contains numerous varieties of life

Mars
  • Fourth planet from the sun
  • First superior planet
  • Normally the fifth brightest object in the sky
  • Also known as the red planet, due to the rust
    compound located on it
  • Most like Earth it has seasons, clouds, wind,
    and dust storms
  • Has two moons, Phobos and Deimos

Jupiter
  • Fifth planet from the sun
  • The first of the Jovian or Giant planets
  • 318 times bigger than Earth
  • Fourth brightest object in the sky
  • It takes 11.9 years for it to revolve around the
    Earth
  • Has 16 moons

  • Sixth planet from the sun
  • 95 times bigger than the Earth
  • Has four rings
  • Takes 30 years to revolve around the sun
  • Has at least 21 moons

  • One moon named Charon
