  physically hurt by an intimate partner
• 28-50 of women suffer physical abuse from their
  partner

Sexual Terrorism

• Rape - sexual intercourse that occurs without
  consent as a result of actual or threatened force
• Stranger rape
• Acquaintance rape

• Sexual Harassment - the unwanted attention of a
  sexual nature from someone at the workplace or in
  an academic setting

Rape Myths and their Implications

• Women are turned on by coercion and want to be
  raped
• Nice girls dont get raped
• Males who rape other males are nearly always gay
• All men are biologically programmed to be
  potential rapists (Thornhill Palmer, 2000)

It is never OK to force yourself on anyone, even
if

• They are dressed provocatively
• They tease you.
• They say no but you think they mean yes
• Youve been sexually active with this person
  before.
• You think that they would enjoy being forced to
  have sex or want to be persuaded to have sex.
• They are drunk
• You paid for their dinner/movie/etc.
