software that displays - Census 2000 demographic data
- EPA regulated site locations
- US Geological Surveys Geo Names and Info System
(GNIS) - Census 2000 legal and statistical features
- TIGER/Line 2000 roads and hydrography

map layers and results of LandView database
queries. - These programs work together to create an easy to
use computer database retrieval and mapping
system.
5Getting to know LandView Home
We will cover the following functions of LandView
Learning these major functions provides a basis
for discovering other LandView options on your
own.
6 Getting to Know MARPLOT
From LandView Home, click
The MARPLOT Program will open.
7Marplot Navigational Tools
The Arrow Tool is used to move the Focus Point
, and to select objects.
The Hand Tool is used to make adjustments to your
map display
Clicking on the map with the Zoom-In or Zoom-Out
Tools will change the scale of the map by a
factor of 2, and the click point becomes the
center of the new display.
The Tape Measure Tool measures distance and
compass degrees, displayed at the bottom of the
screen.
In addition, clicking and dragging with the
Zoom-In Tool opens a new map window that zooms to
the dragged area.
8Use the Zoom-In Tool, click and drag around
Arizona.
A new window will open zoomed-in to the dragged
area around Arizona.
9Use the Zoom-In Tool, click and drag around
Maricopa County.
The use of multiple layers shows too much detail
at this level to be useful. However, we can
adjust the layers to our liking.
10List/Layer List
In the Windows Menu Bar, open List and select
Layer List.
Three of the Headings, are self-explanatory.
is an option that will show or hide layers
automatically.
11Scroll down to Census TIGER/Line 2000 Layers
and EPA and Hide everything except the major
roads layer.
Then, click OK
12The resulting map shows only county boundaries
and roads. This process of Hiding and Showing
Layers is used repeatedly to achieve the optimal
look for your specific
project. Please note that the MARPLOT mapping
software is designed and best suited for creating
large scale maps. A large scale map shows a great
amount of detail for a small area
