You should expect
  • Creative and engaging ways to Learn American
    Government and Pacific Northwest History.
  • A a safe and positive classroom where you can
    learn.
  • A teacher who is fair with grades and rules.

What I expect from you
  • Participating in a positive and respectful
    manner.
  • Making the class one that everyone enjoys being
    in.
  • Being teachable and ready to learn!

What the school expects
  • I support and enforce school policies in the
    student handbook.
  • I warn you when you will lose points and when you
    will be referred to an administrator for
    disciplinary action.
  • I seek the assistance of parents and/or
    administrators in facilitating solution if
    patterns and/or issues persist.

Seating
  • Changes in the seating chart are need for many
    reasons and some do not need to be discussed
    Dont be offended if you are asked to move.
  • Choose your seat wisely.
  • We will assign seats the second day of class.
  • We will change seats occasionally.

Room Expectations
  • A clean classroom is a happy classroom!
  • Please do not sit on, put your feet on, or move
    the furniture.
  • Please do not leave papers, books or personal
    items in the classroom.
  • No Food or Pop! You may only bring in bottled
    waterThis is a school-wide policy.

Grades
  • 10 of your Grade will be Class ParticipationYou
    will earn 5 points per day for being on time,
    prepared, and remaining on task throughout the
    period. There will an alternative assignment
    during the semester to allow students to make up
    school related absences.
  • 30 of your grade will be Daily WorkSave all
    daily work/notes and turn it in as a packet when
    its due. This is so you can use the packets to
    review for the tests.
  • 30 of your grade will be AssignmentsWe will be
    sharing article reviews/summaries, community
    experiences, and other assignments several times
    a quarter. We will may have two department-wide
    assessmentsa paper and presentationthat will be
    completed during the year.
  • 30 of your grade will be Unit Tests

Class time is valuable
  • Time given in class to complete assignments will
    be used for that purpose. Plan ahead when
    working on projectsIf you fail to use class time
    productively you will lose points!
  • No cell or head phones in class. They will be
    taken away and referred!
  • Disruptive or distracting behavior will be
    identified and referred if it persists

Daily Points will be lost
  • If you are unable to meet any of these
    expectations.
  • Examples If you are
  • Tardy or are not prepared for class
  • Referred for not following school rules
  • A distraction or disruption
  • Off task or not participating in class

Grade Policies
  • The base or specific assignment rubric will be
    used to assign point totals, if you are concerned
    or have questions about a grade or rubric, please
    ask!
  • Late assignments not excused by absence or
    arrangement, will be reduced 50 and may not be
    accepted after papers are graded and returned.
  • Tests will be made up before/after school or by
    arrangement and may not be made up after tests
    are graded and turned back.

Base Rubric
  • () Exceeds Standard Work that shows class-wide
    exemplary work and an extra effort for the
    assignment. It demonstrates a mastery of the
    material, is neat and organized for quick
    reference, and is complete. (100 or an A)
  • ( ) Meets Standard Work that shows a strong
    effort for the assignment. It demonstrates an
    understanding of the material, it is neat and
    useful for reference, and is mostly complete.
    (80 or a B)
  • (-) Below Standard Work that shows some effort
    for the assignment. It demonstrates little or no
    understanding the material, it is messy, it is
    hard to use for reference, and/or it is
    incomplete. (60 or a D)
  • (U) Unacceptable Work that may be re-submitted
    for half credit before its returned. (0 or an
    F)

Materials
  • Everyday you will need
  • something ready to write with,
  • something ready to write on, and
  • a three-ringed notebookor space in oneto keep
    your class work in.
  • Daily Points will be lost if you are unable to
    meet these expectations.

  • We have the Seattle Times available for you to
    read/take.
  • You may be given a textbook to store and use at
    homeWe have a class set here
  • Please return all classroom textbooks to the
    shelves before you leave the room.
  • If you need something, please ask for it!
