The indirect object (IO) tells us where the
direct object (DO) is going.
He gives the book to María. DOBook Where is the

He buys me flowers. For whom does he buy the

action is performed.

Yo le doy mi libro. Tú les das el dinero.
I give him my book. You give them the money.
