4Administrative Mission, Vision and
Values
- The Need and What is it?
- What does administrative mean?
- How will it help Administrative units?
- Does it replace Organization MVV?
- Does the President support this?
- Does this affect you?
5The Need
- The administrative departments are good, but they
are not aligned working together they could be
great! - They did not have a strong sense of who they are
and what theyre trying to accomplish together - They did not share common values among
departments - Guiding university documents arent very helpful
to administrative departments
6MVV - Overview
BYU Mission and Aims
Administrative Mission, Vision and Values
Department (such as Financial Services) Mission,
Vision and Values Statements
7Admin. MVV What is it?
- An enduring set of principles
- Applicable to BYU administrative units
- A bridge between the universitys guiding
statements and those of our departments - An umbrella for our departments
- A way to think consistently about our purpose and
our aspirations for the future, and to help guide
our daily decision making
8Admin. MVV administrative?
- Administrative, as used here, applies to
personnel in (non-academic) support areas - It DOES NOT apply only to areas under the
Administrative Vice President - There is no such organization as administrative
services at BYU - Currently, this applies to OIT, PMPC, PF, SAS,
HR, FS, PT - Others may adopt as they are inclined
9Admin MVV How will it help employees in these
units?
- Mission tells what we do and why we do it
- Vision tells us what we aspire to achieve
- Values tell us how we make day-to-day decisions
10Admin. MVV Does it replace an organizations
MVV?
- No . . . allow me to use Financial Services as an
example . . . - Financial Services mission and vision statements
- consistent with the administrative mission and
vision statements but not word-for-word - Financial Services (and other departments that
have adopted this) values are exactly the same as
the stated administrative values, although
different departments may emphasize one value
more than another
