• Education Oxford University- studied Science for
  2 years.
• He then switched to English.
• He graduated in 1935 with a B. A. degree and a
  diploma in Education.

Military Career

• During World War II, Golding joined the Royal
  Navy and served on a cruiser.
• He became a lieutenant in command of a rocket
  launching craft.
• During his naval career, Golding saw action
  against battleships, submarines, and aircraft.

• He was present at the sinking of the Bismarck and
  took his rocket-launching craft to Normandy for
  the D-Day invasion.
• His experiences in the war influenced his views
  about human nature.
