3Introductionmain previous steps
- November 2000 (Oxford)
- 3 cases studies (books, journals, scientific
data) and first analysis of the ingest process
main steps - may 2001 (Ames)
- ingest process concept paper issue 2.
Identification of the phases - July 2001
- ingest process methodology - preliminary version
- September 2001
- comments from US and GB
- October 2001
- first version of the proposed producer - archive
interface methodology guide
4IntroductionMain actions
5The new version of the document received comments
More than 15 comments to be discussed
6Main features of the guide
- In depth analysis of each phase,
- summary of the steps of each phase
- details for each step
- identification of the needed actions
- Definition of the inputs and the outputs of each
phase, - The formal definition phase handles partly the
same elements as the preliminary definition
phase, but with different goals - feasability and preliminary definition for the
first one - agreement about the full specification of the
objects to be delivered and about the associated
conditions for the formal definition phase - Orientation to a practical and tutorial guide
7The new version of documentMain phase objectives
and outputs
8The new version of document preliminary phase
9The new version of document Formal definition
phase
10The new version of document Transfer phase
11The new version of document Validation phase
12Open pointsStatus of the document
- Applicable standard or guide ?
- CNES point of view
- general guide describing the 4 phases in a way as
exhaustive as possible - with a neutral vocabulary, independent from the
vocabulary used in such or such domain - This guide should the the base to easier the
definition of a standard applicable to each
specific domain (libraries, government archives,
scientific archives) - but for each domain, we always have to add
specific aspects that are not handled in the
guide - in each domain vocabulary can be used
13Open pointsExpected improvements
- These improvements are not independent from the
status of the document. Our hypothesis here is a
guide. - Document structure
- synthetic arrays phase/ Action summary /
involves - coherence between all the aspects analysed in the
preliminary phase and the corresponding aspects
in the formal definition phase - identification of the mandatory and the optional
points
14Open pointsExpected improvements
- Shall we add a chapter how to define an
applicable standard for a given domain from the
guide ? -
- Case studies. Shall we add some of them ?
-
- Number of documents and specific guides related
to the ingest process have not been taken into
account, - CCSDS/ISO discussion about the comments,
-
15Conclusionkey points
- Make a decision about the status of
archive-producer interface methodology guide, - Deal with the improvements of this guide,
- Identify the standards related to the four phases
dictionary and formal model ? - Identify the associated tools see each phase
and see the first prototype developed by CNES, - Open discussion.
