2What is Microsoft PowerPoint 2003?
- Microsoft PowerPoint is one of the leading
programs used for creating presentations. - With PowerPoint, you can create any type of
presentation/slideshow by customizing each slide
to your specifications.
3Opening Microsoft PowerPoint
- Click the Start menu, click All Programs, and
click Microsoft PowerPoint.
4Interacting with PowerPoint
- You will find the Minimize, Maximize, and Restore
buttons on the horizontal title bar at the top of
each window.
5Closing Microsoft PowerPoint
- To close a window, either select the Close button
on the PowerPoint title bar or click the
PowerPoint icon on the top left portion of the
title bar.
6What is a Slide?
- Slide shows are made up of a series of slides
that contain text, pictures, diagrams, charts,
and other objects to display and enhance a
presentation. - Slides are similar to pages in a Word document or
worksheets in an Excel spreadsheet.
7Adding a Slide
- PowerPoint provides you with a New Slides button
located on the main toolbar.
8Deleting a Slide
- Click the slide, and then click the Delete button
on your keyboard, or click the Slide, click Edit
and Delete Slide.
9Cutting, Copying and Pasting Slides
- Select the slide, click cut (scissors) to cut the
slide completely out of the presentation or Copy
(double documents) to duplicate the slide. - After you have chosen to cut or copy, click
paste. - Cut, Copy and Paste can be done from the Main
toolbar or by right clicking on the slide.
10Text AutoFit
- PowerPoint resizes text as you type so that it
fits into a placeholder. - You will notice when Text AutoFit is minimizing
text when the AutoFit icon is active on the slide.
11Creating Text
- To create text in PowerPoint you must have a
place for it to go, meaning a text box or
placeholder. - Click on the text box/placeholder and type.
12Deleting Text
- There are two ways to delete text the Backspace
key, and the Delete key. - The Backspace key always deletes text to the left
of the insertion point - The Delete key always deletes text to the right
of the insertion point.
13Selecting Text
- To select (or Highlight) text you can move your
mouse insertion point (which looks like I) to the
blank space in front of the text you want hold
the left mouse button down and drag the
selection tool over the text you want to
highlight.
14Cutting, Copying and Pasting Text
- To cut or copy text, first you must select the
text you want to edit, and then click on the cut
or copy button we used in the last lesson. - Pasting text will place the item in a new
location.
15Using the Format Painter
- The Format Painter allows you to copy the
formatting of text (bold, italics, underline,
colour, borders, fill, etc.) and apply it
elsewhere. - To use the format painter, first click the
paintbrush icon () on the toolbar. Then, select
the text that you want the new formatting to
apply to.
16Using Find and Replace
- Click the Edit menu and click Find or Replace.
17Saving A Presentation for the Second Time
- After you have saved your file, the file will
update just by clicking the save command.
18Opening a Presentation
- There are two ways to open an existing
presentation from your hard drive and from
PowerPoint itself.
19Closing a Presentation
- Use the Close command at the top section of the
File menu. - This command will only close the active
presentation without closing the program.
20Using the Save As Command
- If you want to see the Save dialog after saving
your presentation for the first time, click the
File menu and click Save As.

- The Help menu is one of the best ways to get
help. - Contains many commands and tools.

- When you click the Help menu and click Microsoft
PowerPoint Help, the assistant will pop up on the
right hand side of your screen. - You can also activate the assistant by pressing
the F1 key on your keyboard or clicking the help
icon on the standard toolbar.
24Configuring the Office Assistant
- Make sure the Office Assistant is shown.
- Then, right-click on the Office Assistant, and
click Choose Assistant.
25Using the Type a Question Box
- Type your question in the box and hit enter.
- A list will be displayed under the search box.
- Click on any of the items listed to view results.
26Getting Help in a Dialog Box
- Click the question mark in the top right hand
corner of the dialog box, next to the close
button. - Once you click that question mark, you will see
related help topics.
